MANKAYAN, Benguet Mayor Frenzel Ayong announced he tested positive for Covid-19.
“Despite being careful, I was still infected with Covid-19 when the swab result was released by Parkway Laboratory on April 11,” the mayor said in a statement April 11.
Ayong's announcement came a few days after Buguias Mayor Ruben Tindaan tested positive for Covid-19. Tindaan is currently in isolation and is recovering from the disease.
In March, Kabayan Mayor Faustino Aquisan died of Covid-19.
Ayong said he was admitted at the Lepanto Hospital, which is managed by the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Corporation in     Mankayan on April 10 where he had his X-ray examination.
“Unfortunately, X-ray results showed I have pneumonia,” he said.
Ayong was referred to the Benguet General Hospital in capital town La Trinidad, some three hours away from Mankayan where he was first admitted. He is currently in stable condition.
He asked the public for prayers for his fast recovery from Covid-19.
He also called on the public to strictly adhere to the minimum public health standards to protect themselves against Covid-19. -- PNA
