Pesky gambling dens and their ‘protectors’
Rudy Garcia
The heat is on now that only a few days left before the election. I bet, most if not all of the candidates whether local or national are praying hard, doing all their best in their campaign sorties. Now is the peak period for the candidates to exert all their efforts.
Funny but they become our instant friends, sympathizers and relatives, by root or by mere pretense. Kilala nila tayo ngayon pero pag nasa pwesto na, hindi na at pati anino nila di mo na makita.
During their rallies and caucuses, it’s still the same old political tactics. Too much but empty promises like old music played a hundred times, flat forms of government seem to be all the same like a script done by only one author -- below the belt attacks, mudslinging, character assassination, and so forth. They become good actors and actresses on and off the stage. They pretend to be the most holy, the underdogs while trying to make the voting public believe they are pure and harmless as meek as the lambs, but, once they are elected into office, their true colors like beasts in sheep clothing will come out.
And how about their funny antics? Its Entertaining to hear them sing even if they are sintunado and see them dance with their parehong kaliwang paa. Sometimes their sense of humor becomes senseless, but I appreciate the efforts of these politicians, after all, its not easy to appease the audience.
Come what may, it would still be the will of the voters that would make the candidates win. Their characters, track records, backgrounds and their platforms are plus factors. Remember that voters are getting wiser and more intelligent. And to all the candidates, just play fair and you will get, your fair share. Nobody’s a loser in the game of politics anyway. If you lose, try again next time, and if you win, I hope you fulfill your promises. Let it be done and I bet all will be having a good done deal. Good luck, “Advance Happy Election Day!” ***
So what makes this rich businessman run again for councilor in the City of Baguio. He doesn’t deserve to be in the position because of his bad character. He is a known drunkard, gambler and arrogant, surrounded by his foolish people especially this white gray haired man who was expelled from a Baguio University. This candidate in fact is our family friend but I can’t take his bad characters anymore so I will make sure that his name will be out from my list come election day, right Mr. Tsekwa?
If I will come up with the list of deserving candidates to be elected as Baguio councilors, it will be brother Ed Gapuz. I’ve known this fellow my entire adulthood and I can attest to his good background and good moral character. We really need people like him in the city council. More on deserving candidates next issue. Abangan.

I wonder how powerful and influential are those protecting illegal gambling in Baguio. Aside from the so called illegal numbers game called jueteng, there are now other illegal gambling games like monte, pula’t puti that are rampant right at the noses of public officials and the police. An illegal gambling dens are now in operation daily near the corner of Magsaysay Ave. and Burgos St. just beside the jeepney loading point of Pinget and Dreamland, the building where the hidden massage and videoke is located. These are now again operating after three days closure due to the raid conducted by elements of the Criminal Investigation Detective Group from our earlier exposure. How true that the operator of this gambling den was able to fix all concerned just to be back and continue his illegal operation? If then, how much? Well this is a question that needs to be answered by the Baguio City acting Mayor Peter Rey Bautista, AVCTF chairman councilor Galo Weygan, and BCPO chief Moises Gueverra. Pakisagot niyo nga po to mga sirs!
And how about the gambling activity going on at the Mr. Suave along hilltop, beside the Hanger Market Building? I think we better call these gambling dens “Close, Open.” Who are the authorities and honorables (or dishonorables) protecting these gambling dens?
Maybe some of our public officials are busy campaigning for themselves or their bets that they don’t have any time to look into these matters of concern since anyway, their salaries are coming from hard-earned taxpayers money so, who cares? Ang mga kakapalmuks! Mahiya naman kayo!
