Three bocaps slain in Nueva Ecija ambush

BY LIAM ANACLETO

TALUGTOG, Nueva Ecija – Three barangay officials of this town died on the spot when they were ambushed in a remote place here a past midnight on Tuesday April 24. The killing marked the first violation of a “peace” pact signed by elective officials last April 21 and brokered by the Nueva Ecija Partish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting and the provincial police.

Police had not ascertained the motive of the killing but it was believed that politics was behind it as the three victims reportedly belong to the Bagong Lakas ng Nueva Ecija of Balane, a provincial political party. Nueva Ecija police provincial director Senior Supt. Allen Bantolo identified the victims as barangay chairman of Saverona; barangay kagawad Juanito Dona y de Gracia, 60 and Eusebio Jimenez Jr. y de Gracia, treasurer, all of Barangay Saverona, Talugtog. They were shot in different parts of their bodies.

Talugtog police Chief Insp. Danilo M. Cuevas said the victims were waylaid by at least four men at a dark section of the Talugtog-Munoz road at Sitio Macatcatuit, Barangay Saverona at about 1:30 a.m. that day. The gunmen fired at the victims who were then on their way home on board their vehicle. A fourth occupant of the victims’ vehicle, identified as Rizal de Gracia, survived the ambush.
