3 persons nabbed for robbery with violence
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Three persons were arrested here along Km 6 on Sept. 17 for robbery with violence. Joint elements of the provincial police mobile group and La Trinidad and provincial police arrested Malcolm Longgato, 33, married, resident of Barangay Central Pico Allan Adeban Bomas-ang, 32, married, resident of Pines Park, Km 4 and Riyadh Lizardo, 26, single, native and resident of Tabangwoen, Balili – all in Trinidad. Judge Marybelle Marinias of the Regional Trial Court issued warrants for the arrest of the suspects.
Man draws life prison term for rob-slaying
TAYUG, Pangasinan — A Regional Trial Court judge sentenced to life imprisonment a man accused of robbery with homicide.
RTC Judge Ulysses Butuyan of Branch 51 based in this town found accused Joel dela Pena, single, native of Koronadal City, South Cotabato, guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the offense charged.
He was also ordered to indemnify the heirs of the Zainab Jalel Monahamad, who was killed in the robbery, the amount of P100,000 in damages.
Records showed on June 6, 2005, some 40 passengers of a Five Star bus bound for Manila were held up by three men in Barangay Barangangobong, Tayug.
In the course of the robbery, Zainab, a child, was shot and killed by the robbers. Peña was arrested by a policeman, PO2 Darwin Aquino, during the holdup. – Jerry Padilla
Drugs angle eyed in slay of two women
NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur – Police are looking into the drugs angle in the ambush-killing of two women at a mountainous portion of the highway near the boundary of this province and Abra.
Chief Insp. Marlo Castillo, chief of police here, said the case might be solved soon, noting claims of the relatives and companions of the two victims that before the shooting, a caller had called through cellular phone several times to one of the victims.
“Tinanong dawn paulit ulit nung caller yung isa sa biktima kung matagal pa daw ba silang aalis para umatend sa court hearing,” said Castillo, who is now leading the investigation of the murder of the two women.
He identified the victims as Imelda Cantoria of Sta. Lucia, Narvacan town, but residing in Bangued. Abra and Alda Cabana, 20, of Barangay San Jose, Narvacan.
Wounded in the daylight ambush were Alex Cantoria, Eric James Cabana and his two-year-old daughter Jamie.
The victims were aboard a Toyota Light Ace vehicle with plate number PTV 244 on their way to Abra after attending a court hearing on a drug case in Narvacan Regional Trial Court when they were attacked. -- Mar Supnad
Four wanted persons arrested in Cordillera
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Four persons who are reportedly wanted for various crimes were arrested recently by policemen in different parts of the Cordillera.
Chief Supt. Eugene Martin, regional police director identified the suspects as Aron Tiaon Atin-an, 18, single, of Insulbeg, Lubas, La Trinidad who hails from Kapangan, Benguet and brother Ronel Ropcky, and Reynaldo Signany, all residents of Kalkalumazi, Calao, Villaviciosa, Abra.
Atin-an who was arrested by a team of the La Trinidad Police Station in Barangay Tawang here, was listed as the third most wanted person in the town.
He was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Francis Buliyat if the Regional Trial Court Branch 9 in Benguet for robbery with violence.
Two police teams arrested the Siganay brothers on the strength of a warrant issued by Judge Corpuz Alzati of the RETC Branch 2 of Bangued, Abra for three cases of attempted murder.
Loader pins, kills kid, hurts his mother, sister
ASINGAN, Pangasinan – A four-year-old boy died while his mother and younger sister were seriously injured when they were hit and pinned by a Volvo loader at the quarry site in Barangay Cabalitian, this town.
Asingan police told provincial police director Senior Supt. Isagani Nerez that at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday, the mother and her two children were passing through the quarry site when they were struck and pinned by a Volvo 450 loader operated by Alexander Nimer y Guillermo, 23, of San Patricio, Sta. Maria, Pangasinan.
The victims were identified as Bonifacio Alviar y Dasin, 20, housewife, all of Barangay Cabalitian.
While the loader was backing off to maneuver in the place, the victims were pinned by loader.
All victims suffered injuries and were all brought to the Polymedic Hospital in Villasis, Pangasian.
However, Bonifacio Alviar died while undergoing treatment. The driver of the loader was arrested and placed under custodial investigation. – Jennelyn Mondejar
Region 3 intelligence division No. 1 in PNP
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — The Office of the Region 3 Intelligence Division of the Police Region 3 Office under newly designated Region 3 police director, Chief Supt. Errol T. Pan was adjudged No. 1 in the entire Philippine National Police in over-all performance evaluation rating in the second quarter of this year.
The honor is credited to Senior Supt. Oscar C. Albayalde, RID 3 chief.
Highly respected in the intelligence community, Colonel Albayalde was resposnsible for the neutralization of several organized crime groups, drug syndicates, and gun-for-hire rings in Central Luzon.
In recognition of a job well done, the PNP efficiency medals (Medalya ng Kasanayan) were awarded to the officers, men, women, including the nonuniformed personnel of RID 3.
They were cited for their concerted efforts and devotion to their assigned duties and tasks.
The RID 3 officers and personnel who received the efficiency medals were Chief Inspectors David
Poklay, assistance chief; Jhoanna Ponseca Rosales, chief of intelligence research section (IRS); Senior Inspector Hari D. Lapuz, chief of counter-intelligence section (CIS); SPO4 Cesar Dimaulo Jalasco, chief clerk; SPO3 David Robles Sambas, IR section clerk; SPO1 Benjamin Lantano Ramos Jr., CI section clerk; PO1 Wilma Mendoza Guzman, IO section clerk.
Also awarded certificates of commendation were PO2 Arnel Desumala Castillo, foreign liaison police non-commissioned officer who was adjudged as Best Uniformed Personnel of RID and Melody Pamintuan Limin, researcher, who was adjudged the Best NUP.
The awards were given during the traditional Monday flag-raising ceremonies here. General Pan congratulated the awardees and urged them not to rest on their laurels and to aim for further excellence.
