Foreigners assured safety after killings

VIGAN CITY – A police official assured the safety of foreigners in Ilocos Region in the wake of the killing of two German persons in separate stabbing incidents in San Juan and Bauang towns, La Union. Senior Supt. Marvin Bolabola, region chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said the two incidents were isolated cases and the motive was personal grudge as indicated by the statement of the witnesses.
“We assured the safety of foreigners in the region as we gave them protection through police visibility and creation of a direct link between them and the lawmen in case of emergency,” Bolabola said.
He said they already had a lead in the identity of the suspects in the two cases. Eberhard Rust, 67, a German, was found dead inside his house in Montemar Subdivision, San Juan, La Union last July 7. Heinz Dziengle, 65, also German, was stabbed to death by an unidentified man in his residence in Barangay Pugo, Bauang, La Union last August.
