By George Trillo

MALOLOS CITY – Three persons including the elder brother of Norzagaray town vice mayor were killed in Bulacan in 14 hours, instilling fear among residents on spate of killings in Bulacan since last month. Police Chief Insp. Rodgynald Francisco of the Angat police station identified the first two victims as Arnel Magat y Santos, 39; and his girlfriend, Carmina Evangelista, 37; both of Barangay Sulucan of the same town.

Investigation showed that the victims were on board a Yamaha motorcycle (QH 3278), on their way home after buying grocery items at the Angat town proper, when two motorcycle riding men behind them started shooting them around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The victims, Francisco said, sustained seven gun-shot wounds each from behind, while witnesses said that one of the suspects got off the motorcycle and shot the victims again to finish them off. The suspects fled after the incident, and the police recovered at least seven empty shells from a Cal.45 pistol from the crime scene. Investigators said the possible motive for the killing was love triangle, because both victims were married to other individuals before having a relationship.

About 14 hours later, the elder brother of Vice Mayor Boyet Santos of the nearby town of Norzagaray was shot in front of their house Thursday morning. Mayor Feliciano Legazpi of Norzagaray town told newsmen that Ricky Santos, the elder brother of his vice mayor was also killed Thursday. Legazpi said are still investigating the incidents to determine motives.

He also said victim Ricky Santos was into the recruitment business, sending workers to Japan and other countries. Following this, Bulacan residents aired apprehension over rising incidents of killings in the province since last month. They said on May 4, former Calumpit mayor Ramon Pagdanganan, the younger brother of former governor Roberto Pagdanganan was killed. The incident was followed by the ambush-killing of a Manila-based police officer in Marilao town, and the massacre of three men in Meycauayan City days later.
