September to Remember

ART TIBALDO

BAGUIO CITY -- With the camera as a potent tool for any documentation be it historical, news or simple family portraitures, a day-in-a-life kind of pictorial project is being readied as an added feature of Baguio's 99th Charter Day Celebration.

Dubbed "September to Remember," The Baguio Media Museum and Animation Studio in collaboration with DÉJÀ VU Photos will spearhead the project and calendared September 21 2008 as the day for photo shooting by registered participants.

Believing that one effective means to appreciate the present-day Baguio City is through visual images, Sly Quintos of DÉJÀ VU Photos said that this activity attempts to capture in photographs a cross-section of Baguio City within a 24-hour period.

Quintos, a seasoned print journalist will act as the Project Director and at the same time serve as the resident photographer at the BMMAS during the event. The rules and guidelines of the pictorial project according to Quintos are based on the day-in-a-life concept wherein participating photographers are expected to take pictures only during the designated day and submit images for consolidation by the organizers.

Quintos added that participating photographers are expected to have attained a more critical perception of Baguio and must have reached a heightened awareness about his role in molding the public's consciousness of the City.

The images captured during this 24-hour span period shall be pooled for a public display or exhibit at a later date and an independent body shall be commissioned to select one photograph that summarizes the general concept of the project. A corresponding modest prize awaits the lucky winner. The guideline states that the pictorial can start immediately after midnight of September 20, and pictorial session can extend up to midnight of Sept. 21.

The images captured during this 24-hour span period shall be pooled for a public display or exhibit at a later date on an equal photograph-per-photographer ratio. An independent body shall be commissioned to select one image or photograph that summarizes the general concept of the project. This is intended as a form of incentive and is not meant to create an atmosphere of competition among the participants. A corresponding modest prize awaits the lucky winner.

Quintos also added that the photographs can be sold during the exhibit period at a cost to be determined by the owner and all images will be posted online at www.baguiogallery.com. Interested participants must signify their interest to join the pictorial by writing to; September to Remember Secretariat, Baguio Media Museum and Animation Studio, No. 32 Sumulong Road, Baguio City, 2600, Philippines. No registration fee is required.
