Poll case vs LU mayor junked

BAUANG, La Union– The Commission on Elections’ Second Division has affirmed a court decision dismissing the poll protest against this town’s mayor for lack of merit.

In an 89-page resolution, the division denied the appeal of losing mayoral bet Romina Joy Hidalgo-Dumpit, who alleged the victory of Mayor Robert de Guzman in the 2007 elections was marred by irregularities.

Earlier, de Guzman denied the alleged irregularities saying it was natural for some candidates to claim irregularities committed by the opposite camp if they lost.

He said there are legal recourses like the courts in settling poll disputes.
