Arroyo pushes SCTEX road to La Union

By George Trillo

CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga – President Arroyo will extend the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) from Tarlac to Rosario, La Union via the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway which is the Phase 2 extension of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx).

Ms Arroyo said the Clark-Tarlac segment of SCTEx is classified as extension of Phase 1 of NLEx. Construction started last year and is expected to be completed by 2013.

Meanwhile, Mabalacat Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales has cited the SCTEx and the development of Diosdado Macapagal International Airport as two of President Arroyo’s major legacies in Central Luzon that will benefit not only the region but in the entire country as well.

“President Arroyo was able to bring in more development not only to Mabalacat but the entire Region III,” Morales said.

He noted that among the flagship projects of the Arroyo administration in Mabalacat, include the modern SCTEx linked to the town via the two interchanges in Barangays Mabiga and Dolores.

The SCTEx is a 94-kilometer four-lane expressway north of Manila. Its southern terminus is at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales which passes through the NLEx interchange near the Clark Special Economic Zone in Angeles City, while its northern terminus is at the Central Techno Park in Tarlac City, Tarlac, he added.
