LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The Benguet State University will celebrate its 24th year as a premier university in Cordillera on Jan. 12 with the theme, “BSU: A partner of Communities in Restoring Environmental Integrity Towards Sustainable Development.”
The one day celebration will honor student achievers and service awardees. It will also showcase the talents of the different BSU student performing groups.
A photo and printed artifact exhibit will be held at the administration building lobby from Jan. 11-15, 2010.
Interested parties are invited to contribute any photo or artefact in their possession that speaks something about BSU as a partner of communities as early as 1916 up to 2009.
BSU was once the La Trinidad Farm School under the Bureau of Agriculture in 1916.
It became the Trinidad Agricultural School in 1920, the La Trinidad Agricultural High School in 1946, the Mountain National Agricultural School in 1953 and the Mountain State Agricultural College in 1969 through Republic Act 5923.
On Jan. 12, 1986, MSAC became the Benguet State University by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 2010.
Initiatives for this development started in the 70s by former Assemblyman Andres A. Cosalan when he filed a bill to elevate MSAC into a university.
Rep. Samuel Dangwa refilled the bill in 1984 until Presidential 2010 was signed.
Through the years, BSU has collaborated and partnered with several communities in CAR and throughout the country through research and extension works. – Jennelyn S. Tabangcura
