Gov Espino challenges media to tell the truth

By Mar T. Supnad

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. urged media practitioners to tell the truth in reporting.

"We don't mind if there would be a lot of critiques and criticisms for as long as they are about improving the services of the provincial government, he said".

During a media community night sponsored by the governor for fun and fellowship Espino said the provincial government’s treat to the working press was an expression of gratitude for their support in community development and to strengthen media relations.

Observing that the local press was getting bigger, Espino said members of the "Fourth Estate" are always the partners in development for any community, adding everyone should do his job for the good of the province.

"In my two years and six months in office, I think we really did a lot in such a short time," he said as he urged the local newsmen based here to be part of the provincial government in the pursuit of development.

Ging Cardinoza, president of Pangasinan Tri-media Association, thanked the governor for the gathering saying “This is one of the very few instances that has put the media together.”

He called the occasion a "gift of love" from the governor.

Cardinoza cited the governor for working very hard which earned for him newsworthy achievements generating stories that landed in the front page or even made it to the banner headline.

Meanwhile, Bernie Errasquin, chairman of Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas-Pangasinan Chapter, urged truthful information towards public good, in his message.

Rani Manaois of Pangasinan Press and Radio Club noted that the growing number of media practitioners in the province was a sign of development.

He also called on his colleagues to tell the truth. “we will be unfair kung ang sasabihin natin ay yung hindi natin nakikita na nangyayari sa Pangasinan."

With reference to the mass killing of journalists in the Maguindanao Massacre, Allan Sison of Pangasinan Press Club, said "lalo sana nating ipakita ang tibay sa paglalahad ng katotohanan sa bawat istoryang ating nakikita at napagmamasdan sa ating paligid.”

Pangasinan media offered a minute of prayer for their colleagues who were killed in the Maguindanao massacre.

The provincial government raffled off various electronic gadgets that would be of great help to the journalist's profession like flash drives, digital voice recorder, broadband internet kits, cell phones, digital cameras, DVD players with television and a laptop.
