BONTOC, Mountain Province – The holiday season in this capital town was marred by a mysterious death, a shooting incident and discovery of marijuana bricks left unattended at a sidewalk in front of the Kevin Eatery here at Poblacion on Dec. 24 at about 1:20 a.m.
Town police deputy chief Insp. James Bauding, led police in retrieving four cartons of the marijuana after he spotted these along the sidewalk opposite the National Food Authority office.
A police report said an Isuzu Elf truck with a plate number, WAP 301, was parked near the contraband items.
Bauding instantly called the attention of the police personnel at a nearby Rotunda community police assistance center.
The rare smell emitted from the boxes prompting policemen to open one carton. It yielded bricks of marijuana leaves, buds and stems.
The cartons were brought immediately to the Bontoc police station.
The contraband items were inventoried in the presence of the provincial prosecutor Moses Ayochok, Bontoc mayor Franklin Odsey and Apollo Padaen of the media group.
The illegal drugs bore 58 pieces of bricks with a total weight of 57.75 kg or an equivalent of P1,443,750.00.
The contraband was turned over to the evidence custodian of the provincial PNP office.
Meanwhile, the police blotter revealed in the evening of Dec. 23, one Leonardo Poloc Waking, 40, single from Lanao, Bontoc Ili was found unconscious near Tracy’s eatery along the national highway located at the Poblacion.
Responding police officers rushed the victim to the BGH for treatment.
Waking was later on transported to the Pines Hospital in Baguio City for further medication but expired on Dec. 25.
In a separate incident, a certain Israel Bitayan Gallad, 26 single and a resident of Loc-ong, Poblacion was brought by responding policemen to the Bontoc General Hospital in early morning of December 25.
The victim was allegedly shot with a .Cal. 45 pistol beside the Fagyan residence in Loc-ong, Poblacion.
Police investigation bared one Gene Castillo Soliven, who was following the victim, disclosed that two suspects mauled Gallad before one of the suspects shot the victim.
Prior to the shooting incident, Galled was allegedly involved in a fistfight with a certain Howard Lorenzana, 26, married, businessman of Pozurobio, Pangasinan, in front of the Aclipen’s building near the Bontoc public market.
Lorenzana was immediately called by police for questioning. The result of the investigation proved that the previous fistfight had no connection with the shooting incident.
Gallad is at present recuperating at the BGH.
As of press time, the two cases are still under follow up investigation.
