BONTOC, Mountain Province – Rules on the nationwide gun ban imposed by Philippine National Police chief director Jesus Verzoza from Jan. 10 to June 9 were bared here last week by Chief Insp.Marcial Fa-ed, town police chief.
Fa-ed said under Verzosa’s memorandum, only regular members of the PNP and other law enforcers are authorized to carry firearms or other deadly weapons in prescribed uniforms showing legibly their name, rank and serial number.
In case rank and serial number are inapplicable, identification card showing clearly name and position shall be visible at all times.
Members of privately owned or operated security/ investigative/ protective/ intelligence agencies duly authorized by the PNP can possess firearms but members should wear their prescribed uniforms together with their ID cards.
The firearms of security guards shall be deposited in their respective posts when they are off-duty.
All persons in civilian attires are presumed unauthorized to carry firearms and they are subject to arrest and investigation.
Check points manned by uniformed men shall be established in all the distinct or conspicuous areas to strictly implement the firearms ban.
Meanwhile, Fa-ed reported some crimes solved by local police this month. These included four thefts, two physical injuries, damage to property, violation of anti peddling ordinance, liquor ban and alleged carnapping.
The cases were either referred to the barangay lupon or settled amicably by both parties with the intervention of the police.
One physical injury case is being investigated to identify suspects.
In another case, Insp. James Bauding, deputy chief of police, in a report said a mini dump truck was left unattended on Jan. 10 at Poblacion with its key inserted in the ignition switch by its driver who was identified as a certain Victor Toyoken, 27, married of Kilong, Sagada.
When the owner of the truck named as Ian Sitio Angway, 25 of Sabangan but at present residing in Puliwes, Baguio City suspected that the truck was inadvertently left by his driver, he proceeded immediately to Baguio.
Toyoken reported to police the missing vehicle after he came back to buy some goods in a grocery store.
A group of policemen acted immediately and proceeded towards Baguio. The “missing” vehicle was found at Maba-ay, Bauko being driven by Angway. – Francis Degay
