3 ‘Who can?’ questions

COMMUNITY BILLBOARD

(‘Global Filipino Nation,’ an international organization of global and onshore Filipino leaders and organizations committed to “Building the global Filipino nation for good governance,” posts these queries this week. – ed)

If the country hopes to move closer to its goals, the electorate should now shift from candidate bashing to dissecting requisite Presidential leadership qualities.

There are at least two sides presented to contentious issues, notable of which relate to C-5 vs. SCTEx; and Hacienda Luisita vs. Norzagaray. The Monsod-Barcelona exchange on C-5 has shed ample light on the relevant circumstances.

No one has an unchallenged claim to pristine integrity. Follow-on discussions on hot issues have created redundant impact. There is no issue resolution beyond reasonable doubt.

Enough already! What would serve the country’s interest is for discerning voters to discuss who among the “Presidentiables” have the capacity to fulfill three “Who can?” questions.

1. Who Can Make the Country Richer? (Material)
a. Who has a credible strategy to rapidly raise the country’s level of welfare, measured in terms of GDP and other parameters?
b. Who has the demonstrated background, record and capacity to carry out the strategy?

2. Who Can Help Preserve Our National Values? (Moral)
a. Who has the most coherent program to preserve national values?
b. What is the “Presidentiable’s”position on the RH Bill and divorce?

3. Who Can Carry Out Required Reforms? (Political)
a. Who has a record in shepherding legislative measures to introduce reforms?
b. Who has shown the capacity to exercise political will in implementing reforms?

Who can do it? Let the scorecard on the different “Presidentiables” guide the voters in the formulation or reformulation of their choice. Let it be so and not otherwise.
