Baguio sizzles with 29.1◦C temperature

By Dexter A. See

BAGUIO CITY — This mountain resort city continues to register record-breaking temperature not only in terms of the chilly mornings but also in the scorching afternoons.

This developed as the local office of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration recorded the hottest temperature in the history of Baguio City which saw the mercury level of the thermometer rise to 29.1 degrees Celsius early Tuesday afternoon.

Previously, the hottest temperature recorded in the city was 29.0 degrees Celsius on April 22, 1990 and April 4, 1981.

However, Wilson Locando, PAGASA weather specialist based here, said because of worsening effects of climate change, the hottest temperature in the city could reach 31 degrees Celsius in the coming days since the weather condition is being aggravated by the prevailing drought in most parts of the country.

The city still maintains its cool and romantic weather during the late afternoons and early mornings where the average temperature ranges from 14 to 16 degrees Celsius.

Because of the unpredictable weather condition in the city, Locando advised local residents and tourists to take the necessary precautions so that they will not contract diseases that could pose a serious threat to their lives, especially heat stroke since the weather could get hotter in the coming days.
