BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya– The water elevation of Magat Dam, whose power generation plant has been temporarily shut down due to its low water level, further dipped to 149 meters, its lowest in nearly two decades.
Dam engineer Saturnino Tenedor of the National Irrigation Administration Wednesday said the dam’s latest water level is already below 150 meters, the minimum operational level for its irrigation facility.
The more than three-decade-old dam, located along the Isabela-Ifugao border, recorded the same water level of 149 meters in July 1991.
The dam’s normal water level is 183 meters.
Earlier, the NIA said the present water stock in the dam’s reservoir is only good until this month due to the prolonged dry spell.
Any further drop in its water level, the agency said, would force it to temporarily stop releasing water. -- CL
