PACHIE’S POINT
Fr. Marcial Castaneda
After more than a decade of reaching out to the young people through music, the Breviarians is inviting the public to come and watch their annual thanksgiving concert, this time dubbed “BREVSTOCK XI.”
It will be held at the Baguio Convention Center on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. The event will highlight the launch of BREVSTOCK-THE ALBUM – a compilation of original songs written and performed by the youthful Brevs themselves which speak of their strong faith in God.
A Brevstock song-magazine will complement the album. Performers include Agat, a multi-awarded singer-songwriter, Hope Springs Eternal, Holy Sea Weeds, Chantalle, Bundles of Joy, RobeAnne, Jayjay Jr. of Pinoy Pop Superstar fame, Ingrid Calimlim, 99.9 FM’s DJ Windtalker and the highly popular Kinnoboyan.
Our very own singing Bishop Carlito J. Cenzon will be the Guest of Honor and is expected to render his favorites. Some songs of Yours Truly as Igorot priest singer-songwriter from his latest album, Poor Man’s Prayer, will be included in the compilation. Actress and Star Circle Quest Finalist Ms. Neri Naig, a proud Breviarian herself, will grace the event with a surprise number.
Brevstock (which means, Bring Every Soul To Christ the King), is the Breviarian way of providing the young people with a venue to hone their musical talents and skills as they are guided to build a firm foundation of faith in God. The Breviarians, which attracts a large number of young people, currently serves at the Baguio Cathedral. It was established in 1999 mainly to introduce the praying of the Breviary, commonly known as the Liturgy of the Hours, to the youth, and to welcome the Great Jubilee Year 2000 and the New Millennium with renewed vigor and enthusiasm in rediscovering the treasures of the Faith.
Bro. Alex Manongdo founded the Breviarians inspired by the statement of the saintly Pope John Paul II that the evangelization of Asia will start in the Philippines. He said it during the liturgical service the late Pope presided at the Melvin Jones football grounds when he came to visit Baguio in 1981. Bro. Alex Manongdo is an Awardee in 2007 as one of the Most Outstanding Citizens of Baguio for Moral and Spiritual Development of the Youth during that year’s Baguio Day celebrations.
Brevstock XI Concert tickets are priced at a General Admission of 50 Pesos only. Brought in part by Porta Vaga Mall, Gemini Hair Salon, Catel’s Silver and Souvenir Shop-Mines View, Garlique, NIIT_Baguio, DZWT-AM540 and 99.9 Country FM.
