Cops seize dog meat

BAGUIO CITY — More than 200 kilograms of dog meat were seized by police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group at a bus terminal here last week.

Chief Insp. Jun Rodriguez, CIDG Baguio chief, said five individuals were caught unloading sacks of dog meat from a white Tamaraw FX at the Dangwa terminal on Rajah Matanda Street.

Rodriguez said the dog meat was set for delivery to a local restaurant.

An investigation is underway as the CIDG chief noted how some of the dog carcasses still had collars attached to them.

The dog meat was turned over to the National Meat Inspection Service.

The five men including the driver will be facing charges of violation of the provisions of Republic Act 8485 or the Anti-Rabies Law, Animal Welfare Act of 2006 and Consumer Welfare Act. -- Dexter A. See
