BACNOTAN, La Union – A special police task force is now conducting thorough investigation to arrest killers of a barangay chairwoman and a kagawad (councilman) in this town last week.
Senior Supt. Ramon Purugganan, La Union police director, said the task force is going after the killers of barangay chairwoman Eulogia Arellano and kagawad Francisco Hermosa who incidentally were both vying for the chairmanship of Barangay San Martin.
“We are having difficulty trying to establish the motive in the killings. With Arellano and Hermosa both dead, no one would directly benefit from the attack. So we are digging deeper into the matter,” Purugganan told the media.
Arellano, a re-electionist barangay head, was killed Oct. 22 while Hermosa, was gunned down Oct. 24.
Both were shot with automatic pistols by motorcycle-riding men, police said.
