BAGUIO CITY– The Cordillera office of the Department of Education revealed Thursday nearly all public elementary and secondary schools in the region are without titles to the land these occupy.
Dr. Josefina Tamondong, DepEd regional director, said there are no titles to prove ownership of the land despite the fact that such schools have been built for more than 20 years already, thus, the need for the agency and the concerned schools to work out the titling of their respective properties to prevent unscrupulous enterprising individuals from taking advantage of the situation and squatting on school sites.
“There are about 42,000 schools all over the country and the situation is no different,” she said.
Tamondong said their problem is aggravated by heirs of donors claiming back ownership of the lots and there are no documents to establish the school’s possession. -- Dexter A. See
