DAGUPAN CITY – A river clean-up drive will be a major part of the Bangus Festival 2011 activities set on April 12 to 17, organizers said.
Citing importance of a clean environment to the health of rivers which serve as the hotbed for the bangus industry, City Agriculture Officer Emma J. Molina has also organized a mangrove planting activity in the river banks of Barangays Pantal, Bonuan Gueset, Lucao and Tapuac.
"We are going to plant 5,000 pieces of mangrove seedlings/propagules, which will protect the environment from storm surges, waves, tidal currents and soil erosion," said Molina.
Members and officials of non-government organizations, the academe, the church, media and other volunteer groups will take part in the clean and green activity, he said.
Following tradition, organizers also lined up the Kalutan ed Dalan, Gilon-Gilon ed Dalan, 101 Ways to Cook Bangus, Bangus Rodeo, Bangus ed Karosa and many other activities to highlight the Bangus Festival 2011. -- LBI
