Ifugao to fine river polluters

HINGYON, Ifugao — An ordinance protecting rivers in barangays here was enacted recently by local legislators to promote the value of protecting river systems, the source of food for many villagers.

Known as “Sagip Ilog Ordinance,” authors by Councilors James Banawol and Francis Baguidudol, said polluters will be penalized under the measure.

The first offense carries a fine of P300 or a penalty of one day community work; second offense – P500 or two days community work; third offense – P1,000 or three days community work.

Succeeding offenses will be penalized P2,000 or five days community work but depending on the discretion of the court where the cases are filed.
