Two nabbed for man’s slay near radio station

BAGUIO CITY – Two men allegedly involved in mauling two out of school youths both aged 18, at Upper Bonifacio St, Holy Ghost Proper here resulting to the death of one victim and injury of another were arrested at their residence and positively identified by a witness.

Police investigation disclosed the two victims, identified as Joshue F. Buenafe, of Barangay Gabriela Silang here and John Mark D. Padilla of San Fernando, La Union were sleeping inside a parked Isuzu van with plate WNE 321 on July 6, at about 12:30 a.m.

It was at this time when the suspects, identified as Romy P. Mazon, 39, carpenter and resident of Upper Bonifacio St., and Ryan F. Mico, 25, single, jobless and resident of Lopez Jaena St, entered the vehicle and assaulted the victims with wood which they used as bats to hit their victims.

However, Padilla was able to run outside leaving Joshue still being mauled by the suspects.
A witness who was standing in front of the Baguio Assembly Church reportedly saw Mazon alight from the vehicle holding a piece of wood then ran towards a nearby radio station.

Moments later, he saw another man alight from the same vehicle holding a piece of wood who walked towards a nearby computer school.

Members of the church reportedly went out to check and found Buenafe lifeless so they immediately called for police assistance.

Further investigation conducted by members of police station 3 headed by Senior Insp. Joseph Del Castillo revealed early morning of July 5, Mazon was mauled by the group of the victims due to a misunderstanding that prompted them to retaliate.

The police crime lab office led by Supt. Rodrigo Leal investigated the crime scene while Buenafe;s body was brought to La Paz Funeral Homes for autopsy.

Padilla was brought to the Baguioe General Hospital and Medical Center for treatment due to a fracture on his arm.

The arrested suspects are now detained at the city jail on order of prosecutor Evelyn Tagudar. -- Karissma Sta. Juana
