This was bared by Benguet Rep. Ronald M. Cosalan, chairman of the House committee on public works and Baguio City Rep. Bernardo M. Vergara, vice chairman of the same committee, who said the President’s funding commitment for the upgrading of Marcos highway, Kennon road and Naguilian road would boost the tourism industry in the region.
During his recent recent visit here, Aquino announced he will facilitate the release of more than P513 million to fund the implementation of vital projects that will upgrade the current state of Marcos highway, Kennon road and Naguilian road.
Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan said Aquino’s pledge of support to develop the roads linking Baguio and the lowlands speaks well of his sincerity to bring development to the countryside that will strengthen the region’s tourism industry which is the lifeblood of its desired growth.
Damaged parts of Kennon road, Marcos highway and Naguilian road were caused by bad weather. Road cuts, damaged slope protection walls, sinking areas, cracks on pavements among others have not yet been restored.
President Aquino saw the sad state of the three major roads after he motored to the city.
Cosalan and Vergara disclosed they will immediately follow up the President’s commitment with Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson so appropriate detailed estimates and programs of work will be readied so necessary projects will be immediately implemented before the end of the year.
