BAGUIO CITY – The reduced number of pedestrian lanes along Session Road will soon become permanent.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan said the Traffic and Transportation Management Council (TTMC) has recommended the permanent adoption of the closure of pedestrian walks along Session Road particularly those across PortaVaga to National Life Building and McDonalds to Philippine National Bank (PNB) after the month-long experiment bore positive results on the traffic condition in the area.
He said the TTMC assessment showed that the scheme was advantageous and beneficial in improving the traffic situation along the main road.
He said the recommendation has been submitted to the city council for approval.
The mayor said the TTMC has also eyed the implementation of other component measure to complement the reduced walkways.
He said the TTMC will also study the feasibility of closing other lanes in other areas at the central business district.
Councilor PerlitaRondez proposed the measure asking the Baguio City Police Office and other concerned agencies to study the possibility of reducing the existing pedestrian lanes along Session Road.
This, along with other proposed traffic measures, was endorsed by the city council to the mayor for recommendation and eventually was experimented on.
The city council proposal also covers the prohibition of left turn from Mabini Road going to Upper Session Road, the turning off of streetlight fronting Maharlika Livelihood Center and the implementation of double parking on both sides of Upper Session Road. -- A Refuerzo
