Tsinoy shabu supplier nabbed

By Emely Cayandag Fama

BAGUIO CITY -- A Chinese mestizo allegedly supplying shabu to jeepney drivers here was arrested with eight sachets of the illegal drug in a sting operation around 9 p.m. Oct. 10.

Renante Chan y Duran, 42, single, vocational graduate, charcoal artist, native of Sta. Cruz, Manila, resident of No. 141 Paraan St., Quezon Hill, here was immediately taken into custody after he sold .37 grams of shabu to an agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Chan traded the dangerous drug for P4,000 to the PDEA agent who posed as buyer during the buy-bust operation at Magsaysay Ave., Baguio City.

A PDEA report said Chan also supplies shabu to gays who work in beauty parlors and to college students.

Investigations revealed Chan does business with his ‘source’ through wire transfer, in which he regularly sends an average amount of P8,000 every other day to the latter via money remittance service.

Correspondingly, the shabu stuff will be delivered to him personally by a courier.

The PDEA also found out Chan was applying for gun ownership.

Gil Cesario P. Castro, PDEA regional director said there was an alarming rise in reports about drivers using dangerous drugs to stay awake, especially if they are driving overnight or long distances.

He urged transport groups to help police their ranks and encourage their members to submit for drug test as deterrence to illegal drug use among drivers.

For drug-free streets, the PDEA recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Pico PuguisJeepney Operators’ Drivers’ Association or PPJODA.
