Christmas Ed Kapangan slated December 10 -11

KAPANGAN, Benguet -- The annual Christmas Ed Kapangan is scheduled this year on Dec. 10 to 11 to promote eco- tourism and the rich culture and tradition of this municipality.

The activity is ideal for families who are taking advantage of the holiday season where relatives and friends bond together.

It includes a trip to the various tourist destinations where one can stay for overnight camping and watch cultural presentation and experience the beauty of nature.

Kapangan Mayor Robert Canuto said that the first leg will be a guided tour to the more than two hectares of 56 different varieties of anthurium in a forest under natural shade of trees.

Anthurium is the One Town One Product (OTOP) of the municipality.

There will be a hike to Bulalakaomountain to view the majestic beauty of the municipality and for photos.

One can also experience overnight camping at the Balacbac Elementary School grounds mini park overlooking the DakiwaganMouintain where the image of Santa Claus can be seen.

Visitors will witness a caƱao and iwik in a wat-wat dinner, bonfire with cultural presentation, grand march at night time and a Christmas exchange of gifts.

The second day will start with a “hataw” to warm up campers for another day of exciting activities.

A trek to the Obellen rice terraces to witness and participate in the pounding of rice for “chu-om,” then spelunking to Bulalakao cave, one the beautiful caves of Kapangan.

One can also swim with Kapangan muscle men led by international body builder Cesar Lokines and fish the indigenous way using” bani-it” and “gobo” at the Amburayan River.

A “kamayan” lunch highlights activities of the annual event which continues to draw visitors from here and abroad.
