BONTOC, Mountain Province-- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority has allotted P1,526,500 for implementation of its Training for Work Scholarship Program in the province.
According to TESDA provincial director Gabriel Cayacay, the amount is a part of PNoy stimulus package which was given to TESDA.
Cayacay said this program aims to assist needy and deserving people in the province to enroll in job-ready training programs and earn corresponding qualifications that will enhance their employability and will help uplift their socio-economic status.
He said the amount will be used as training cost and assessment fee of beneficiaries who will avail of the scholarship program.
A total of 201 slots is allotted for the province. Of the total slots, 76 is allotted for Masonry NC II, 55 for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II, and 35 each for Carpentry NC II and electrical and Installation Maintenance NC II.
Based on the data of TESDA here, training cost for Carpentry NC II is P7,000.00 per beneficiary and must have to complete the required number of 21 hours training; SMAW NC II requires 34 hours training to finish this qualification and training cost is P10,000.00 per trainee; Masonry NC II with a training cost of P6,000.00 per trainee requires 33 hours training to finish the qualification, and beneficiaries who enroll in Electrical and Installation Maintenance NC II are required to finish 51 hours training and the training cost is P5,000.00 per beneficiary.
The amount of P500 is also allotted to each trainee as assessment fee which will be conducted after the trainees have completed the required number of training hours in the qualification they enrolled in.
Those qualified to avail of the program must be trainable as determined by pre-training assessment instruments (YPASC), must be 18 – 45 years old, preferably single, at least high school graduate (high school diploma), has not availed of any TWSP from 2006 – 2010 or any government financial assistance, must be unemployed and work-ready, and endorsed by the mayor or local chief executives.
