Baguio bags 6 awards in regional alternative learning system

BAGUIO CITY  - This city won six awards during the 2012 Alternative Learning System (ALS) regional awarding ceremony  of the Department of Education-Cordillera Administrative Region last May  24 at nearby Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan received  the Most Outstanding Local Government Unit ( Highly Urbanized City  Category) Award  for  the city's  support to the ALS programs for out-of-school youths and adults.

The   city also received five more awards as the Most Efficient Schools Division that Support the Alternative Learning System by then  under former City Schools Division Superintendent Ellen Donato who is now the regional DepEd regional director.

Gibraltar headed by Punong Barangay  Roy Tao-ey  bagged the LGU Barangay Level Category while the Outstanding  District ALS Coordinator  was awarded to June JoaneSoliba. 

The Mobile Teacher Category was awarded to PoncianoIbag and  Speacial Award was given to Arthur Tiongan as an Outstanding Division Education Program Coordinator during the event.
            
The province of  Benguet represented by Gov. Nestor Fongwan topped  the category in  Provincial Level  in the  Cordillera Region  as an Outstanding LGU and Benguet Schools Division under Superintendent Nancy Lumbas while  the Outstanding Literacy  Program was given to Philex Mines president Miguel Juan representing the Indigenous Host Communities  Association  PhilexOurtlyingSitios Inc.
           
The Outstanding ALS Mobile Teacher was awarded to Eleanor Dig-o and BalikPaaralan Para Sa Out-Of-School Youth and Adults (BP-OSA) Learning Center was given to Benguet National High School principal CerilaTaynan for the award in Community Learning Center Category. Benguet Learning Center represented by president Myrna Nazaro  was awarded  the  Service  Provider category.Special Award was also awarded  to Outstanding Division Education Program Supervisor Pepe Tubal during the  ceremony.
         
 Other awardees were Mountain Province Gov. Leonard Mayaen in Provincial Level Category while Mountain Province Schools Division under Schools Superintendent Mary Lang-ayan took the Provincial Schools Division Level category.
          
 Mayor PlacidoEduarte of Tayum, Abra received the award in the LGU municipal level category while PB Victor Escalante of Velasco Barangay, TayumAbra won the LGU barangay category. 
          
Nongovernment organization Bagnos Ti Biag Inc. represented by  BOT chairman Edwina   won the award in Service Provider Category.
          
 Domogan who gave the response for the awardees, Fongwan  and La Trinidad, Benguet Mayor Greg Abalos who was represented by municipal administrator  Charles Canuto  thanked the DepEd-CAR under the leadership of regional director Ellen Donato, ALS supervisors, coordinators and teachers , local government units and nongovernment organizations and volunteers  saying they are heroes for championing program for out-of -school youth and adults..
