NAT an enrollment requirement for high school freshmen

By Daniel Codamon

LAGAWE, Ifugao-- Starting this school year, every first year high school  entrant shall be required to submit his Certificate of Rating (COR) in the National Achievement Test (NAT) in Grade VI   issued by the National Education Testing and Research Center (NETRC) as  part of requirements.

Ifugao Schools Division superintendent Estela Carino re-echoed this order  fromDepEd  Secretary Armin Luistro,  to all public school principals, district supervisors and administrators for their strict compliance with  this directive.

Incoming first year students must present Form 138 class card and the COR during enrollment or during the first day of classes.

Carino  said an  incoming student without COR will still be accepted , but concerned teachers should make extra effort to determine the extent of the student’s school readiness.

The order of  Luistro  on  COR as part of the credentials of first year high schools entrants, seeks to strengthen 2007 DepEd Memorandum “Utilization of the COR in the NAT in Grade VI for Remedial Instruction in First Year Public High Schools."

The 2010 DepEd memorandum entitled “COR based on the Results of the NAT for Grade VI pupils and Second Year High School Students” also requires that the issued COR in the NAT will be included in the learning profile of each first year entrant.

The requirement aims to provide schools with sufficient entry data of each learner particularly on strengths and weaknesses in terms of competencies and to determine the student’s readiness to tackle high school academic works.
