2 Taiwanese, 7 others face illegal fishing raps

By Charlie Lagasca

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya  – Charges for illegal fishing will be filed against two Taiwanese and seven Filipinos apprehended by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) off Cagayan last week.

The PCG said the nine fishermen were on a Taiwanese fishing boat, which was found to have no commercial fishing license.

They are being detained at Cagayan’s Santa Ana port while the PCG took custody of their their fishing boat.

Last year, six Chinese fishermen were fined $200,000 or P9 million for fishing near the Calayan group of islands without permits from authorities.
