TABUK CITY, Kalinga –
Twenty two kin of former communist rebels in the province were granted college
financial aid as beneficiaries of the re-integration program of the government.
Ten were grantees of the scholarship program jointly implemented
by the Office of Presidential Adviser on Peace Process and Commission on Higher
Education while 12 were covered under the province’s educational aid program.
Eusebia Haddac of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development
Office, program coordinator in the province, said their office opened
application to the program last April for school year 2012-2013.
Grantees of the OPAPP-CHED program receive a stipend of P5,000 for
tuition and book allowance per semester
released at the end of every semester.
Haddac said the provincial government also has similar offer to
those who are not accommodated by OPAPP-CHED but with a lower stipend of P2,000
per semester.
Recipients of the scholarship aid were encouraged to enroll in
state colleges or universities although it was not stated as condition of the
grant, Haddac said.
Haddac urged the grantees to seriously take the opportunity to
pursue college to improve their lives. -- PIA
