BONTOC, Mountain Province -- The government has granted
P1,875,000.00 as financial assistance to eight micro, small and medium
enterprises in the province.
The fund was under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading
Program of the Department of Science and Technology.
According to DOST provincial director Norberto Cobaldez, the
enterprises that availed of
assistance for implementation this year
were the Inso Bakery in Sagada, Fengtayen Furniture Shop in Belwang and
MW Auto Repair Shop in Anabel, Sadanga.
Others: Tawaran Meatshop in Kin-iway, Besao; Kidlaa Enterprise,
Codeo’s House of Miniature Toys, Marcelo’s Woodworks and Carrot Juice
Processing, all in
Bontoc.
The amount loaned by these enterprises will be used to procure
equipment or tools for improvement of production.
Cobaldes said the SETUP was a strategy to encourage and assist
MSMEs to adopt technological innovations to improve their operations to boost
their productivity and competitiveness.
He added this would enable firms to address technical problems through technology to improve productivity through better
product quality, human resources development, cost minimization and waste
management and other related activities.
It grants a no-interest, no-collateral loan to MSMEs which payable in three years.
There were also five project proposals for funding in the
province: Madalang Wellness Center, Top Priority Printshop and Navales
Bakeshop, all of Bontoc; Herbal Oil
Processing of KAFILIG in Sabangan; and Mushroom production/processing in Bauko.
