BONTOC, Mountain
Province – Women are showing the way here is making this town “clean and
green,” and prevent spread of diseases.
Members of the Churyaa
Ladies Organization of Bontoc Ili said they initiated a clean-up drive last
June 24 to strengthen social obligation and help in the prevention of dengue.
The CLO is a newly
recognized organization that aims to strengthen strong family ties, develop
social involvement and participation in the community, foster community
services, and sisterhood among members.
It is composed mainly
of ladies from Bontoc Ili who are dedicated to public service.
Recently, the group
received a certificate from the Department of Labor and Employment for the
organization’s registration.
This certificate
stated the group was a legitimate rural workers association organized last year
that prompted other women to join the organization.
The clean-up drive was
conducted along Bontoc-Baguio road particularly along Chakchakan to At-ato
section.
Drainages and canals
were also cleaned of weeds and garbage.
Officers of the
organization include Virginia Lomofo as president; Juliet Kawi, vice president;
Marlyn Kiwwa, secretary; Irene Baggay, treasurer; Janet Fachadfad, auditor and
Elenor Sumcad and Carol Papag as sergeants at arms.
