‘Balili River Day’ activities to clean vital water system

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet –Organizers of the second “Balili River Day” today (Sept. 16)have set activities that would sustain awareness and support in cleaning up and revitalizing the river.

The Balili River System and Revitalization Coalition (BRSRC) with members from local government units, concerned agencies, academe and nongovernment organizations  in  Baguio City  and La Trinidad  will start activities with a with a motorcade and parade followed by a short program complemented with exhibit and display of products.
               
Participants from this town will hold a motorcade from the provincial capitol here at 7 a.m. to the  Baguio Convention Center  to join   participants from Baguio City for a parade.
               
From the Baguio Convention Center, the parade will proceed to Session Road Extension to Upper Session Road then  Masaysay Avenue and ends  at the Baguio People’s Park for a short program.
               
Participants will bring along during the parade their own “bayong”  or recyclable bags or carry bags with the logo “Save Balili River, Count Me In” as a tagline of the initiatives of the BRSRC for the river system.
               
Presentation of winning pieces and entries to the Balili River jingle contests would also be held.
               
Bands from the University of the Cordilleras (UC), and Benguet State University (BSU) among others will also perform. A documentary on the Balili River will also be shown.
               
Exhibits of researches, posters, gadgets, equipment, bamboo seedlings and products that have something to do with the agency’s initiatives for the rehabilitation of the river such as recycled goods, food among others will also be on display.
               
The one day event is apart from clean up drives and other relevant activities being carried out along the river system.
               
The  Balili River system has its headwaters in Baguio City and flows midstream  to this town and   down to Sablan municipality which in turn drains into Naguilian River.
