BSU wins two entries in 1st Student Quill Awards



LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Two entries from the Department of Development Communication of Benguet State University received awards during the first Philippine Student Quill Awards at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila in Quezon City on Nov. 12.

Among 68 final entries from different schools in the country, 22 were awarded.

One was given the top award, four for excellence, five awards of merit and 12 finalists.
           
The two entries of the university, the Agshan Community Newspaper Volume VIII and the BenguetIshayawMi, It-ekMi Photo Exhibit (a photo exhibit that featured existing and potential tourist spots in the 13 municipalities of Benguet), were given an Award of Merit and Finalist Award, respectively. Both entries are projects done by the senior Development Journalism majors as part of their major requirements in two of their major subjects: Management and Production of a Community Newspaper and Basic Photography.
           
Having two awards, Benguet State University was among the five nominees for School of the Year Award along with Bataan Peninsula State University,San Juan de Letran,De La Salle University andUniversity of Santo Tomas. De La Salle University won the award and also won the top award for its entry Lasallian Facebook Page.
           
The awards were received by Almira Bentadan, editor-in-chief of the publication; Mervalyn Oplas, associate editor;  Marife B. Wance, photo exhibit coordinator, and Mr. Filmore Y. Awas, Adviser and Chairman of the said Department.

International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) gives the Philippine Quill Awards annually – Philippines to business communicators who have exemplified excellence in their field. This year, IABC Philippines launched the first Student Quill Awards to recognize excellent communication works of students from different universities nationwide.
               
 This year, IABC launched the 1st Philippine Student Quill Awards to honor great work by the Filipino. As in the Philippine Quill, entries for the Student Quill were evaluated based on global standards in categories such as social media, publications, writing, communication campaigns, communication creative, and audiovisual by seasoned subject matter experts sitting as judges who score based on its technical merit, creativity, innovation, and adherence to the goals.Three award categories were given as follows: the Excellence, Merit, and Finalist awardees. – FY Awas
