Comelec urged:Conduct Cabanatuan plebiscite

By Liam Anacleto

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija —The city government here has filed Tuesday a motion before the Commission on Elections to request the poll body to conduct a plebiscite on Jan. 4, next year to ratify an executive order converting the city into a highly-urbanized city.

Mayor  Julius Cesar Vergara said the city government has already remitted to Comelec the amount of P11-million plus for the expenses in holding the plebiscite and has already appropriated the amount of P8-million plus to be paid for services rendered by Pleb Com members and other services staff.

“The date that we are requesting is legal, convenient and doable for the conduct of the plebiscite,” the mayor said.

Vergara added that it is high time that the people of Cabanatuan be given the chance to ratify President Aquino’s Proclamation 418 that converts this city from component into a highly- urbanized city.
