TABUK CTIY, Kalinga -- The
national government released P23.550 million in Kalinga to boost livelihood of
farmers.
The money was released through
the Department of Agriculture under the National Anti-Poverty Council of the
national anti-poverty program of President Benigno S. Aquino.
The appropriation was hastened
through the recommendation of DA Secretary Proceso Alcala, who in one of his
visits to the province, saw the dire need for more farming facilities primarily because of Kalinga’s
agricultural-based economy.
According to Teresa Desay of the
Office of Provincial Agriculturist, the aid will be distributed to four towns
and the City of Tabuk for the construction of additional farm-to-market roads.
Based on the record of OPAG, the
fund allocated for FMR projects were P4.5 million in Pinukpuk, P4M in Pasil,
P4M, Tinglayan; P3M Lubuagan and Tabuk City, P8.050M.
Alcala said one measure to
effectively reduce poverty Kalinga, being an agriculture-based province, is to
increase income of farmers.
Desay said the allocation will be
part of the projects to be implemented by DA in 2013.
