School
principal shot dead
TABUK CITY, Kalinga -- A high school
principal here was not able to grace the opening of classes last week as he was
gunned down near his house on May 31, authorities said.
Police said the victim, Alvino Lupnacan,
principal of the Cawagayan National High School, was on his way to take a bath
in an irrigation canal near his house in Barangay Bulanao Norte, Tabuk City
when the gunman approached him and shot him in the chest.
Relatives rushed Lupnacan to a nearby clinic
but he was declared dead on arrival.
Investigators were still clueless on the
killing.
Grenade
hurled at Abra bank park lot
BANGUED, Abra – Police ares still trying to
identify tow men who hurled a
fragmentation grenade at two vehicles in this capital town night of June
2.
The men on board a motorcycle hurled the
grenade at the parking lot of Allied Bank at the corner of Magallanes corner
Taft streets, Zone 5, shattering the windows of the parked vehicles, including
that of Lester Benedito and Jovelyn Collado.
The grenade attack took place at around 9:48
p.m.
The bank’s glass windows were also shattered
due to the explosion.
Police have yet to determine the motive
behind the attack.
2 shot
dead in Abra
BANGUED, Abra- Despite the existing gun ban,
two more persons were shot dead in the province.
Police reports said the first shooting
incident transpired at Phoenix gasoline station here at Barangay Macray where
the victim identified as Benjo Cruz Bites, 20, tricycle driver was
shot dead in broad day light by a gasoline boy.
The suspect was identified as John
Robert Barbosa, of Phoenix gas station..
Investigation disclosed that the victim
together with his father, Maximo Talledo Bites, and twin
brother, Marcelo Cruz Bites, went to refuel their tricycle at the Phoenix
gasoline station when a heated argument ensued between the suspect and the
victim resulting to a fistfight between them.
The suspect ran to the manager’s office where
Anthony BanisanVerzola, manager of the gasoline station, allegedly handed
a gun to the suspect who went back to the victim and shot him several
times.
Victim was rushed to Seares Memorial Clinic,
Bangued, Abra, but died while undergoing medical treatment.
Suspect fled to unknown direction
while Verzola is under the custody of Tayum police station for
investigation.
Police recovered 2 Cal.45 slugs and one
bullet of the same Caliber.
In Barangay Malapa-ao, Langiden, Abra,
Ferdinand Ducayag Palecpec, 20 was also shot dead by unknown gunmen.
Police investigation disclosed the victim and
Michael Blue were having a drinking spree with three companions at the house of
Manolo Madriaga when the unidentified gunmen, hid and positioned at the west
dim portion, of the house and shot the victims several times
hitting Palecpec on his head that caused his instantus death,
while Blue was shot on his right forearm and brought to Abra
Provincial Hospital in Bangued.
Police recovered four fired cartridges of
Cal. 5.56 mm at the crime site..Motive is yet to be determined as investigation

arrested for drugs; vegetable packer, latest
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Thirty four illegal
drug law violators were arrested first quarter of this year the latest of whom
was a vegetable packer of the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post here who was
busted by narcotics agents in a sting operation at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday here at
Barangay Shilan.
Arrested was Victor Hernandez, 38, of
Malagunlong, Lipa City, Batangas and resident of Fairview, Baguio City.
Hernandez allegedly sold .12 grams of shabu,
for P1,000 to a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency agent who posed as buyer.
A criminal case for illegal drugs was filed
against the suspect before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor of Benguet
Wednesday.
A PDEA report bared this, adding out of 34
drug law violators, 12 were nabbed last month, four in March, nine in February
and the remaining nine in January.
The arrests reportedly led to the filing of
35 drug cases before different prosecutors’ offices and courts.
Two of these were filed in Abra, 23 were
filed in Baguio City, and five each in Benguet and Kalinga.
Likewise, eight of the cases are still with
the Offices of the City or Provincial Prosecutors, while the other 27 are
already with the Regional Trial Courts.
Eighteen drug law violations involved
marijuana, while the remaining 17 were all related to shabu.
Thirteen of the cases were on illegal sale of
dangerous drugs, one case was on illegal manufacture, 14 on illegal possession,
four on illegal use and two on illegal cultivation of dangerous drugs, whereas
one case was on illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
John Hay
worker mauled, divested of cash, valuables
BAGUIO CITY – A housekeeper of Techno Hub,
Camp John Hay here was mauled and forcibly divested of cash and valuables about
9:15 p.m. of June 2.
Police identified the victim as Michelle B. Dacio,
31, married of Upper Hillside.
Investigation disclosed the victim while
walking along Loakan Road at the main gate of Camp John Hay saw the suspect on
the opposite side of the road.
She continued walking but the man suddenly
approached her from behind, covered her mouth, pointed a hard object on her
back then declared a hold-up.
The perpetrator divested the victim of her Seikowrist watch worth P5,000.00, Samsung cell
phone worth P3,700.00 and cash of P1,150.00.
The hold-upper punched her head twice and
kicked her with his knee before fleeing to unknown direction.
Bontoc school
robbed of P92,800 equipment
BONTOC, Mountain Province – Unidentified
thieves divested the Mainit Elementary School here of P92,800 worth of
equipment around 8 p.m. on June 2.
Investigation disclosed at about 6:45 a.m. of
June 3, Elena B. Balanza who reported early for first day of school noticed the
padlock of the school library was removed and the door closed with four nails
hammered into the door frame.
She discovered that the grade I-B and grade
II rooms, and the principal’s office were entered by the culprits by destroying
padlocks of the main door.
The kitchen was also entered by culprits by
destroying the window with the use of a sharp object and used same as their
mode of entry and exit.
Inventory by police and Nora Marna Sagandoy,
head teacher, 43.revealed the following items were taken away by suspects from
Principal’s Office:Sony Laptop valued at 30,000, Nokia cellular phone worth
P2,800.00 and a projector worth P60,000.
Lady jailed
for diverting water, hacking school door
HINGYON, Ifugao – Police arrested June 3 a
certain
Cherry Guinumtad, 25, resident of Sitio Ingayawan, Barangay Umalbong
here for hacking the wooden door of the principal’s office including the
concrete wall of the building.
Police investigation disclosed Benedick Kikigue,
principal of Umalbong Elementary School earlier summoned Guinumtad to appear and
answer allegations against her for destroying the school water supply pipelines
and diverting the water.
When the suspect reported at the principal
office, she suddenly hacked several times the wooden door and concrete wall of
said office.
Guinumtad is now under custody of Hingyon
police.
Lumber
confiscated in Luna, Apayao
LUNA, Apayao – Some 343 pieces of lumber were
confiscated by police here in anti-logging operations led by Insp. Jennelyn M.
Kiwingan June 2 in the mountainous Sitio Bayugao, Barangay Turod, this town.
Some 220 pieces of abandoned illegally sawn
tanguile lumbers were recovered in the area.
The next day in Sitio Samsambiri, Barangay
Marag, 113 pieces of abandoned illegally sawn tanguile lumber were also hauled
and brought to the local environment office grounds.
Jobless
man, companions, nabbed for illegal gun
BAGUIO CITY – A young jobless man and
his companions were nabbed for possession of a pistol here about 12:30 a.m.
June 4 at the waiting shed along the intersection of Crystal Cave main road and
Assumption Convent Road, Bakakeng Central.
Arrested was Mark Kenneth Ramos of Lower
Quirino Hill.
In his possession was a Cal. 38 pistol with six
bullets.
His companions were identified as Mark
Ledesma, 28,businessman, and Mark Mondares painter.
Investigation disclosed police on mobile
patrol chanced on the suspects who suddenly scampered to different directions
upon seeing the approaching mobile vehicle.
The police officers caught them after a brief
chase.
Uncle
rapes niece; tells her not to squeal or he will kill her
ALFONSO LISTA – A minor was allegedly raped
by her uncle at about 8:30 a.m. June 3 inside the latter’s house.
The victim, of Barangay Busilac identified
her rapist-uncle as Antonio Estilong, 56. a resident of same place.
Investigation disclosed Estilong invited the
victim inside his house, gave her a P100 bill, then raped her, threatening her not
to tell anyone or else he will kill her.
The victim also recalled that at about 2 p.m.
December 2012 same incident
happened.
Police referred the case to the prosecutor’s office.
Army
truck falls down ravine; 9 troopers hurt
PASIL, Kalinga – Nine troopers were hurt when
an army truck bearing 20 troopers fell down a 50-meter ravine here around 8
p.m. on June 2 when the vehicle’s lights conked out
The truck, in a convoy with two other
military vehicles, was being driven by Sgt. Edward Salida, PA, 40, with 19 troopers
from the 53rd Reconnaissance Company under 2Lt. Alvin Dela Cruz, Pa and
2Lt.Conrado Cangas, when it fell down the ravine near Cagaluan
Gate.
Police investigation baredwhile the M35 truck
was negotiating a sharp ascending curve, the vehicle’s head lights suddenly shut
off and the driver can no longer see the road.
The driver reportedly braked but due to
slippery road, the vehicle skidded downward until it landed upside down at the
foot of the ravine.
Police, the Pasil Emergency Responders Team
and Lubuagan Emergency Response Team immediately responded and assisted in
retrieval and transport of victims from the incident site to the Kalinga
Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.
Nine troopers incurred slight injuries
Truck
falls down ravine
BAGUIO CITY – A helper was injured when at
about 4:45 p.m. June 3,an Isuzu flatbed truck driven by Alfredo
Casuga, 32, of Aringay, La Union fell down a ravine while ascending Buhagan
Road here.
Investigation disclosed the truck incurred mechanical defect and plunged down the5-meter
deep ravine.
The engine reportedly suddenly stopped and
the airbrake failed to function making the driver lose control of the vehicle.
The driver was not injured but his helper
identified as Michael Miana, 20, of Poro, San Fernando, La Union suffered
a lacerated wound on his left face.
Mianan was rushed to Baguio General
Hospital-Medical Center for treatment.
Disc
jockey mauls entertainer- girlfriend for kissing customer
BAGUIO CITY – An entertainer filed charges
against her live-in- partner for slapping and mauling her hair for
allegedly kissing a customer.
Police said around 4:30 a.m. of June 1,
Cathyrine Grace Lopez, 22, entertainer filed a complaint against her Eduardo
Nabayan, 28, single, disc jockey of Grande Island Disco Bar in Magsaysay Ave.
Baguio City.
Both are residents of Pico, La Trinidad,
Benguet.
Investigation disclosed that while they were
at the disco bar, Nabayan confronted Lopez why she was kissing her
customer.
A heated argument ensued between them that
led to the slapping of the face and pulling of hairs of the complainant.
Eventually the victim stumbled on the floor
in the presence of their co-workers and customers. Case is for inquest
proceeding.
Lupon to
hear case of punching, drunken man
SABANGAN, Mountain Province – The barangay
lupon here is set to hear a case against a drunk man who allegedly punched a
younger man drinking liquor ina store here.
Investigation
disclosed the victim identified as Orlando Wakat Langbis, 56 with his companion were
having a drinking session inside the Dingcog
store here at Barangay Namatec around 8:30 p.m. May 30, when the suspect named
Alberto Buyungan, 45 who was drunk, joined them.
Suspect suddenly
punched the victim’s face twice for unknown reason but was pacified by
concerned citizens who reported the incident to police.
Man
mauls another having
talks on road
BONTOC, Mountain Province – Police reported a
mauling incident that transpired around 11:50 p.m. May 31, beside the Bontoc
Coop Building here at Poblacion.
The victim was
identified as Dan Evert Widwichan Cherwaken, 31, resident of Barangay Caluttit
suspect was named as Carrie Padcayan, 30 of Barangbay Chackong, Bontoc Ili.
Investigation
disclosed that while the victim was talking to a tricycle driver along the road
beside the coop building, the suspect who was sitting at the sidewalk
interfered with their conversation.
Padcayan pushed
Widwichan causing the later to fall on the pavement.
At that juncture,
suspect mauled the victim by boxing his face and hitting his head against the
cemented pavement.
As a result, victim
sustained abrasion on his left elbow, and gashes on his head and face.
Victim was brought to
the Bontoc General Hospital for medical checkup.
The case was endorsed
to the barangay lupon for action.

due to grudge
BANGUED, Abra – A gas attendant fatally
killed a customer here with a gun last week due to personal grudge.
Investigation disclosed that the victim

BAGUIO CITY – A man was held by police for
mauling a lady while she was walking in front of Ganza restaurant at Burnham
Park here around 4 p.m. on June 1.
Police identified the
victim as Kathlyn Guillermo Cristobal, 31, married, of San Carlos Heights here
who was reportedly mauled by Jonathan Mangonig Dela Cruz, 38, of Guagua,
Pampanga.
Investigation disclosed
that the victim and her companions were walking while exchanging jokes when the
suspect suddenly appeared from behind and poked an umbrella several times at
the victim and accused her of laughing at him.
However, complainant
and her companions explained to the suspect that they were not laughing at him.
Despite this, Manginig mauled Cristobal.
Korean
lady robbed of P60,000
by solicitor
BAGUIO CITY – A Korean lady was robbed of
P60,000 by a male thief at about 10:00 a.m.
of June 2, here at Red Station Restaurant Pua Building, Happy Homes along
Magsaysay Road.
Police identified the
victim as Lim Heesuk, 44, housewife and resident of Barangay Guisad.
Investigation shows
that the victim visited her friend, Joseph Kim who owns the restaurant, and put
her shoulder bag on the top of the chair near the counter when the suspect
entered the restaurant and approached her showing a solicitation letter but the
complainant told him to come back the next day.
The victim went to the
kitchen leaving her bag. After a few minutes she noticed that her bag was
opened and discovered that her brown wallet containing the P60,000 was missing
and the suspect gone.
Police recovered a
copy of CCTV footage and will use this to identify the thief.
Drivers’
association treasurer loses
P425,000 to thieves
BAGUIO CITY – Thieves entered an apartment
building and carted away P425,000 cash and valuables of a boarder here at Holy
Ghost Extension on June 2.
Police said Harry
Allan Fomak-chong, 32, driver,treasurer of drivers’ association in the area and
boarder of Five MAR Apartment went out of his apartment around 9:30 a.m.
He told police he
locked his doors but when he came home around 10:30 a.m. he found out his
personal belongings were gone while his unit was in disarray.
No sign of force of
entry was noted by police who said the main door used as the point of entry and
exit of thieves who picklocks to open it.
Interview with
apartment occupants to identify suspects turned negative while fingerprints
were not clear.
Carted away by
suspects were L.G. laptop worth P65,000, Sony camera worth P30,000, 32GB USB
worth P1,200.00, hard disc worth P2,500, cash of P114,000 collection money
from Holy Ghost Operators and Drivers Association (HODA) and cash of
P311, 000 placed inside his unlocked room.
Man
hunted for stabbing passenger
inside jeep
BANAUE, Ifugao – A man is now being hunted
for stabbing another passenger with a knife inside a jeep in this tourist town
on June 1.
Police said the incident happened about 4:30 p.m. along a road here SitioDalican,
Barangay Bangaan wherein the victim identified as Ruben Bunoy, 31 Barangay Anaba
was stabbed by suspect, KeyyePinnay , farmert of Tatagwang, Batad, also in the
town.
Investigation revealed that while on board on a passenger jeep,
both victim and suspect had a heated argument when the suspect stabbed the
victim on his right armpit.
Bunoy was immediately rushed toIfugao General
Hospital for medical treatment where he is still confined while suspect fled.
Uncle
accuses nephew of stealing
chicken; mauls him
BONTOC, Mountain Province – A young man was
taken to the hospital after his uncle struck him with a gun and mauled him
after the latter accused his nephew of getting his chicken.
Police
said the incident happened about 8 p.m. on June 1 along national road, here in Malitep,
Balili, Mountain Province wherein the victim was Mr. years old, single, native
and a resident of said place of incident.
Police
investigation conducted disclosed that the victim, identified as Michael
Guilet Sumedcha, 18 was having a bonfire with his friends when suspect Denver
Perez Lumbag, 29 called the former and asked about his missing chicken.
Complainant answered
his uncle in local dialect by saying “Mid ammo mi met uncle” meaning
they didn’t know anything about it.
Lumbag reportedly took
a handgun from his waist and struck the victim’s head twice that caused Sumedcha
to collapse after which mauled the same and fired the gun hitting the stone
wall.
Suspect stopped
mauling the victim when the latter’s father arrived and pacified the former.
The victim, whose
head was lacerated among other injuries, was rushed to Bontoc General Hospital
for treatment.
Police
recovered an empty shell of 9mm gun.
The case was endorsed
to barangay lupon.
Business
woman loses valuables
to robber
LAGAWE, Ifugao -- A businesswoman here
was victimized by unidentified thief inside her residence who took away her two
gold necklaces, gold earrings, motorcycle key and cash of P2,000 about 10:30 on
June 1.
Police identified the
victim as Byrene Mae Anselmo, 26 ofCanablog, Cuta, Poblacion West, Lagawe.
Investigation
disclosed that the suspect used the back window as entrance and exit in taking
away the said belongings of the victim.
Old man
mauled by youngster
LAMUT, Ifugao – An old man was mauled by a
much younger man for still undisclosed reason here on June 2.
Police
said the incident happened about 4:30 p.m. at Poblacion West, wherein Mario C.
Banig, 64, farmer of Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya was mauled by Angelito B.Dillagan, 26
of Umilag, Lamut.
Investigation disclosed that the victim
was walking when suddenly pushed, boxed and kicked by the suspect causing the
victim to become unconscious.
The victim was brought
to the clinic of Dr. Vilmadela Cruz for medical treatment while the suspect was
arrested by responding personnel and brought to Lamut police station.
Motorcycles
collide inBuguias;
2 hurt
BUGUIAS, Benguet– Two motorcycle riders were
injured when their vehicles collided here on June 2.
Police said the accident happened 10:45 a.m. at SitioAlibacong,
Barangay Amgaleyguey when a motorcycle driven by Roman Sagayo y Vergara, 20 of
Madaymen, Kibungan town and another driven by Marlon Dominguez, 30, of
Palatong, Tabio, Mankayan town collided with each other.
Investigation
disclosed Sagayo was headed to Baguio City while Dominguez was traversing the
opposite lane when they met at the center of the road and collided.
Sagayo was brought to Clinica Alunes at here at Barangay Sinipsip
while Dominguez was brought to Abatan Emergency Hospital, Buguias for treatment.

motorcycles stolen
BONTOC, Mountain Province – Two motorcycles
were stolen here last week and still not found.
The
first was stolen at the backyard of Hye Moga Bellang’s residence in Dantay, Alab
here on May 29 at about 3:30 p.m.
A certain Alex Balteo,
39, of Chackong, Bontoc, reportedly parked his Honda motorcycle without plate
number at the above-mentioned place then boarded a bus towards Poblacion.
However, when he
returned on May 31, 2013, he found said motorcycle was missing and believed
stolen by unknown suspects.
In
another incident, another motorcycle parked at the parking lot of SeniaKawi
near the national road located at SitioFoyayeng was stolen May 30 around 6:30
p.m.
The motorcycle, reportedly owned by Alejandro
Yawan Jr., 35 was stolen by still unidentified suspects.
Stolen
motorcycle found in culvert
below Halsema road
BUGUIAS, Benguet – Police recovered a stolen
motorcycle and gave the vehicle back to its owner.
A police report said around
10:30 AM of June 1, cops, while conducting patrol along Halsema Highway here at
SitioBayoyo, Barangay Buyacaoan were flagged down and told by a certain JeoAkingan
that he saw a motorcycle hidden in a creek just below the road.
Police recovered the gray
Rusi motorcycle hidden in a concrete culvert slightly covered with Alnus leaves.
The motorcycle was
brought to Rusi Motorcycle Inc.offfice at Upper Abatan in the town where it was
found the owner was a certain
Christopher Dalog, 33 of Seb-seb, Bano-oy, Baculungan Norte in the town.
Dalog was notified and
upon showing complete pertinent documents, the vehicle was turned over to him.
The
owner said his motorcycle was missing after he parked it in front of his
residence.
