employee killed, 2 others hurt in ambush
LAOAG
CITY –Gunmen believed to be hired killers ambushed and killed Wednesday an
employee of the city treasurer’s office in Laoag City, while two others were
also wounded when they were ambushed in broad daylight along the road
here in Barangay Lagui – Sail.
A
police report identified the victim as Filicitas Jose, a single, elderly lady,
saying motive for the killing was still unknown.
The
victim was on her way to City Hall office with two other persons on board a van
when they were shot repeatedly by unidentified suspects.
The
gunmen used M-16 armalite rifle and Caliber .45 pistol in the shooting.
Police
gathered Jose was fatally hit with bullets on different parts of her body
causing her to die instantly.
Her
two companions were also wounded in different parts of their bodies.
Policemen
recovered several empty shells for M-16 rifle and Cal. .45 pistol at the crime

Apayao prosecutor punches

MARCELA, Apayao – Police are now investigating a case wherein Cyril Deza,
assistant provincial prosecutor of Apayao allegedly punched Wilfred Martinez,
35, Sanggunian Bayan member of this town.
A
police report said the incident happened around 2 a.m. of June 17 here in
Barangay San Carlos.
Police
said the suspect who was drunk at the time of the incident punched the victim
on his face while the latter tried to pacify the suspect from destroying a
sound system.
Deza
reportedly fled after the incident while the victim went to Sta Marcela
District hospital for treatment.
Young mother stabs son
BAGUIO
CITY – An 18-year-old mother is now in the city jail here after stabbing her
11-month-old son around 6:30 p.m. on June 18.
Police
said earlier, they responded to a call from Julian Storon, security guard of
Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center who reported that a victim of
stabbing was brought to the hospital by suspect JonaCrisCasipitRefugia,
resident of San Luis Extention, San Luis Village here.
Investigation
showed Regugia and his live-in partner,
John Soliven had drinking spree with their friends when misunderstanding
ensued between them.
Both
entered their room to settle their argument but the suspect suddenly took a
knife and stabbed her son.
The
victim was immediately brought to the hospital by the suspect and her live-in
partner for medical treatment.
Refugia
was later arrested.
Mother scolds miner who commits
suicide
PASIL,
Kalinga – A 42-year-old miner reportedly committed suicide here after being
scolded by his mother for getting drunk.
Police
said at about 8 p.m. of June 17, police
received a text message from Barangay Bagtayan chairman Jerry Bakidan informing
them a certain Prudencio Gayawet, resident of Barangay Galdang committed
suicide inside a hut located at the mining area in Pasil.
Investigation
disclosed that prior to the incident, the victim got drunk in evening of June
16 and was scolded by his mother that caused their misunderstanding.
At
around 7 a.m., the victim went to their
hut at the mining site and closed the door.
At
about 10 a.m same day, Bakidan’s friend reportedly went inside the hut and
discovered the victim dead hanging, his neck tied with nylon rope.
The
cadaver of the victim now lies at their residence.
Somali
mauled for threatening to kill
BAGUIO
CITY -- Seven Filipino youngsters mauled a drunk 25-year-old Somali man in
front of a bar here last week over a remark.
Police
identified the victim as Ibrahim Jama, of Upper Malvar St. here who
sustained a nasal contusion during the incident.
Initial
report showed that Jama and his companion, only identified as Fuji, were about
to go home after a drinking spree at the Purple Bar along Upper Session Road
around 4 a.m. last June 15 when they had an argument with a group of men.
Jama
reportedly shouted at the men,"If you were in Somalia, I will kill you
all," prompting the seven men to maul him.
The
suspects fled onboard a sedan car. Police are still investigating the incident.
High school student raped
STA.
MARCELA -- Charges are being prepared against a young man here for
allegedly raping a high school student.
Police
said Cristalina Cabalang reported June 18 to them that her granddaughter was
raped by Mr. Alvin Bunnao, 19, of Barangay Marcela.
Investigation
disclosed the victim was raped one evening, late May and around 10 a.m. on June
7 at SitioLatanak, Marcela.
Bannao
reportedly told the victim not to reporet the incidents or he would harm her.
Bauko native stabbed dead
BAGUIO
CITY – A native of Bauko, Mountain Province identified as Charlie Gabil,
27, married, self-employed, resident of Purok 4, Middle Rock Quarry here was
stabbed to death by one Carlito Ricana, 40, driver around 5:45 p.m. of June 15
in the barangay.
Investigation
disclosed Gabil and Ricanan had a heated argument about water delivery when
suddenly the suspect stabbed the victim three times.
Responding
personnel of Station 5 saw the victim lying on the side of the road and with
the assistance of barangay officials was immediately rushed to Baguio General
and Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Ricanan
was arrested is now under inquest proceedings.
Taxi
driver held up
BAGUIO
CITY – A taxi driver was held up and divested of his earningsof P2,500 and his
cellphone by three still unidientified males.
Police
said the incident happened about 10:45 p.m. of June 15, here along Bermuda
Hill, San Luis Extension.
The
victim was identified as Brantford
Chang, 34, of Barangay Lower Pinget who was held up by perpetrators using
a knife.
Initial
investigation revealed that the victim was flagged down by the holduppers at
Pirok 9, Barangay Irisan and was ordered
to bring them to Bermuda Hill.
Upon
reaching a dark portion of the road going down Bermuda, the passengers
stopped him and declared a hold.
The
perpetrators fled later.
Pickpocket jailed for stealing lady’s
wallet
BAGUIO
CITY – A certain Jamal Abantas Calauto, 19, of Lanao Del Norte, and resident of
Castro’s Residence here at Crystal Cave was jailed for allegedly stealing the
wallet of Jerryl Lyn Evangelista Suyat, 21,
student, native of San Fernando City, La Union, and resident of Kisad
Peak Dormitory.
Police
said the incident happened around 12:30 p.m. of June 15, inside Sunshine
Supermart Bakery here along Abanao,
Investigation
disclosed the victim was buying bread at the
bakery when the suspect opened her shoulder bag and took her wallet
prompting her to shout that caught the attention of the duty security guard who
apprehended the suspect.
Police
of Station 7 responded and brought the suspect and the victim to the station.
The
suspect was reportedly earlier charged for theft but was out on bail for
another crime.
The
suspect was brought to Prosecutor Arlene Cacho who decided Calauto would be
incarcerated at the city jail for theft.
Man reunited with
friend in jail for sneaking in shabu
BAGUIO CITY – A man who tried to sneak in shabu to
his friend incarcerated at the city jail here can now spend more time with the
latter after he was arrested for the deed.
Police
said at about 11:25 a.m. of June 15, Gerald LaruanRingor, 22, went to the jail
to visit Dexter Sukil-up.
He
brought with him two pieces of of McDonalds chicken and one Coke.

James T. Gabil, duty officer, was about to search the food and beverage, when
Ringor immediately left the jail premises prompting duty personnel to inspect the food wherein
they found 1.9 grmas of shabu inside a piece of paper wrapped in scotch tape
inside the plastic cup of Coke.
The
incident was immediately reported by the duty officer resulting to the
immediate arrest of Ringor.
12 persons nabbed for illegal
drugs in Abra
BANGUED,
Abra – Cases for violation of Republic
Act 9165 or “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002” were filed
12
persons recently arrested in this province for illegal drugs.
Arrested
was Rommel Beroña Soriano, 18 who was nabbed along Washington St., Zone 2,
Bangued, for 0.284 grams of shabu.
For the
month of May, eight persons were separately arrested of which four were minors.
A 17
year old was arrested in Barangay Zone 7, Bangued, with shabu weighing .29
grams, valued at P1,000, cellular phone
and other drug paraphernalia.
Another
15-year-old was arrested at a checkpoint along Rizal St. corner
Dangdangla-Cosli Road.
Confiscated
in his possession were a Cal. 25 Pistol loaded with three bullets and marijuana
weighing 3.48 grams and other drug paraphernalia.
Two
other female minors aged 16 and 14 in the company of three tricycle
drivers were also arrested along Mckinley St. corner Santiago St., Zone 5,
Bangued.
Confiscated
from the possession of Deonell B Buenafe were five plastic sachets of
dried marijuana leaves.
Jefferson
S. Benesa, Aries Q. Blaza and the two minors also yielded 63 plastic
sachets of marijuana weighing 149.7 grams, six cell phones and drug
paraphernalia.
Also
arrested within the month was RonronGabino, 21, of Bucloc town.
He was
arrested in SitioTurod, Barangay Calaba, Bangued, Abra for possessing shabu
weighing .01 gram, marijuana weighing 4.36 grams, 1 Cal. 45 pistol and a hand
grenade.
Three
persons were also arrested April in Bowen St., Zone 4, Bangued also for
illegal drugs.
They
were identified as Leonardo Ballesta Cariño alias “Loy”, Joshua Tabada,
both resident of Zone 7 and Ruby Mae AlvaradeViado alias “Ruby” of Zone 6,
all in Bangued.
Approximately
.14 grams of shabu, two cell phones, cash of P3, 620.00 and other drug
paraphernalia were also confiscated from them.
99 guns confiscated in Cordi during poll
period
CAMP
DANGWA, Benguet– A of total of 99 assorted firearms, 215 explosives, 22 bladed
weapons and a grenade were confiscated from 117 individuals for violation of
gun ban.
Police
Chief Supt. Benjamin B. Magalong, regional police director, said the period
covered January 13 to June 12.
Abra
Police Provincial Office scored the highest number of firearms confiscated with
49, followed by Baguio City with 15, Apayao, 13; Benguet, 8; Kalinga, 7,
Ifugao, 4 and Mountain Province with 3.
Aside
from the firearms confiscated, a total of 215 dynamite sticks, 22 bladed
weapons and 3 hand grenades were also confiscated that led to the arrest of 117
individuals.
American missionary dies in Kennon Road
mishap
BAGUIO
CITY – An American pastor died when his vehicle rammed a concrete
barrier along Kennon Road here June 11, according to a belated report.
The
victim, Ronald Albert Hoffman, was headed home in Candon City, Ilocos Sur on
board a Maroon Mazda sedan when he reportedly suffered a heart attack and lost
control of the vehicle.
The
American missionary bore multiple fractures.
Tarlac mishap leaves 2 dead
CAMP OLIVAS,
Pampanga – Two persons were killed while 14 others were wounded when
a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a passenger bus collided in Barangay San
Agustin, San Manuel, Tarlac, afternoon of June 14.
Senior
Supt. Alfred Corpus, Tarlac police provincial director, identified the
fatalities as Joselito Bernardo, 49, driver of the Isuzu SUV, and Ronald
Comber, 41, both of Binangonan, Rizal.
Antonio
Peguillada, 35, a companion of the victims, was taken to the Del Carmen
Hospital in Pangasinan for treatment.
Initial
investigation showed that Bernardo allegedly tried to overtake another vehicle
but lost control of the wheel and crashed into the approaching bus.
Corpus
said that 13 of the 40 bus passengers were treated for minor injuries at the
said hospital.
He said
the bus driver identified as Hector Diaz, 47, was placed under the custody
of the San Manuel police.
Thieves forcibly take lady’s cellphone,
P1,000

TRINIDAD, Benguet – Two unidentified males robbed a certain Jovelyn Yogawen, 23
of Barangay Betag here June 16 around 1 a.m. and took here cellphone and P1,000
cash.
Police
said the victim was walking on her way home when she saw the perpetrators
heading towards here from opposite direction.
One of
the suspects suddenly choked her while his fellow thief took her cell phone and
cash from her pocket.
Suspects
fled after the incident.
Cordillera cops arrest murder suspects
BANGUED,
Abra – Seven wanted persons were recently arrested by police in the region.
An 18-
year old jobless man was nabbed inside the Don Quintin Paredes Hall of Justice
here, identified as Rommel Soriano, for murder with no bail recommended.
Also
arrested in their respective residences in Zone 7, Bangued were Sonny Caliagan Gumano
and Ronnel Alberto Caṅete, 20, both charged
for malicious mischief.
In
Sallapadan, town, Jeron Gandeza Damian was arrested for reckless
imprudence resulting to serious physical injuries.
In
Benguet, La Trinidad police arrested Romy Gacayan for robbery with violence and
intimidation with bail of P100, 000.
In
Barangay Kesbeng, also in Trinidad, Chariston Anton Oyas, 35, of Parapad,
Ambiong, also in La Trinidad was arrested for grave threats with a recommended
bail bond of P12, 000.00.
In
Ifugao, two wanted persons identified as Elvin Bulayo, 26, of Bolar,
Duit, Kiangan town was charged for frustrated murder while a 16- year old
minor,ofSitioAgaban, AmduntogAsipulo, was charged for rape.
4 farmers hit by lightning injured
LAOAG
CITY, Ilocos Norte — Lightning struck a ricefield in Barangay Sagpat, Dingras,
Ilocos Norte June 16 injuring four people – one of them critically, police
said.
Police
gathered from one Susan Calano that her cousin, Edgar Palanggoy, was about to
plant rice seedlings with his three companions when lightning struck and caused
them all to fall on the ground.
They
were all taken to the Gov. RoqueAblan Sr. Memorial Hospital, here, where
Palanggoy was seen with injuries in the head, chest, and feet. He remained

Missing fishermen saved
CANDON
CITY, Ilocos Sur — Eight fishermen from Bolinao, Pangasinan who went missing in
high seas since June 12 were rescued afternoon of June 16 by the Philippine
Coast Guard in waters off Candon.
Rescued
on board their 14-ton fishing boat were “JomarHurvey” as ArnelGohilde, the boat
operator, and his crew Eddie Oribia, Ryan Lebios, JerickPuda, AlbinPuda, Norman
Calicdan, Gringo Gagarao, and Rene Lebios.
Their
boat had been adrift since encountering engine trouble.
Waiter shot dead at waiting shed
BAGUIO
CITY -- A waiter was shot dead by a still while waiting for his friends at a
waiting shed at Barangay Gibraltar here around 10:50 p.m. of June 7.
The
victim was identified as Ricky M. Orlanda 24, waiter, residing here at Ali
House of Shawarma, Upper Pias, Camp 7,
Kennon Rd.
Investigation
revealed that the victim and company came from a birthday party at Gibraltar
after which they decided to go home on foot.
While at
the waiting shed waiting for one of their companions a gunshot was heard
hitting the victim at the back portion of his body.
The
victim was rushed to a city hospital wehre he was pronounced dead around 12:45 am.

police personnel scoured the area for the gunman but it proved futile.
Canteen robbed of P12,000, valuables
BAGUIO
CITY – The Roxas Elementary School Canteen here at Barangay Sto. Rosario
was
robbed of P12,000 and a cimputer hard driver worth P3,000 around night of June
6.
Proprietor
Jeroth T. Montero, 30, married, told police around 4:30 p.m. that day, he locked
their rented canteen and went home then went home.
The
next day, he discovered the window of the canteen was open and a portion of the
flat GI sheet of the window was cut.
The
suspects reportedly took the money placed in a bucket and the computer part.
Three young men mauled outside La Trinidad
bar
LA
TRINIDAD, Benguet – Three men went inside the Midtown Bar here below the
provincial capitol to have a good time night of June 7 but mauled around 11
p.m. when they got out of the establishment by still unidentified five
perpetrators.
Police
identified the victims as Henry Kudan, 31; Daryll Pal-iwen, 17, both of Barangay
Puguis and Denver Diza, 21.
Diza
was accompanied by his mother when he, along with other victims, reported the
incident to the police station.
A
Police report said the victims’ five companions were inside their vehicle when
six unidentified males mauled them .
Diza‘s
jaw was broken while his companions, sustained minor injuries.
Man collects debt, takes cookies instead
BONTOC,
Mountain Province – A businesswoman, resident of White Village here complained
to police a man who wanted to collect debt from her took her crackers
instead.
Investigation
revealed suspect Cyril Magkachi Sawi, 37 of Foyayeng, Bontoc Ili, went to the
store of the complainant Janice Lardizabal Wangdali, 33 around 9:30 a.m. of
June 6 and asked payment of the latter’s debt lent by her mother.
While
they were conversing, Sawi reportedly suddenly took away four plastic containers of
Yummy Biscuit worth P268 per piece with a total value of P1,072 and left the
store.
Man
hacks drinking buddy
DANGLAS,
Abra – A drinking spree turned bloody here around 9 p.m. when a man suddenly
hacked his drinking mate here at SitioBanbani, BarangayPadangitan.
The
victim was identified as Reynaldo Rosario Pensayo, 41, while the suspect was
Narciso Martinez Jose, 52, both residents of the place.
Investigation
revealed that the victim and the suspect were having a drinking spree beside
the house of a certain Hino Bringas when without any reason, the suspect pulled out a bolo and
hacked the victim hitting his back right shoulder.
The
victim was rushed to Abra Provincial Hospital for medical treatment and discharged
later.
The
suspect voluntarily surrendered to Danglas police.
Tricycle driver ‘robs’ 3 minors of phones,
cash
BUGUIAS,
Benguet -- Arobbery hold-up was reported which transpired here along Lamagan,
Abatan by three minors, all residents of
Barangay Catlubong.
The
victims, told police a certain Romeo Quintania, 24, of Lutheran,Abatan called
the victims to ride on his tricycle and while on their way, ordered them to alight
after taking their cellular phones and cash amounting to P500.
A cellular
phone was recovered from the suspect which was positively identified by one of
the victims.
Police
report didn’t say if a case was filed against Quintania.
Man delivering softdrinks mauled
BAGUIO
CITY –A man delivering Pepsi softdrinks was punched for no reason by a resident
at Lourdes Extension Subdivision.
A
police report said around 9:30 a.m. of June 7,
in the area, Edward Porquillano, 31, of Slaughter Compound was
punched by Kits Ocawe, of legal age and resident of Lourdes Extension.
Investigation
showed while the complainant was bringing softdrinks to a store, the respondent
suddenly punched him on the chest.
The case
was referred to Lourdes Extension barangay officials.
Man arrested for frustrated murder
CALANASAN,
Apayao -- Police arrested here June 7 a certain Richard Austria, 29, of Barangay
Sta Filomena for frustrated murder.
This,
after a warrant for his arrest was issued by Judge Francisco S. Donato of Regional
Trial Court, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan on
April 24.
Austria
was turned- over to the court and later incarcerated at Cagayan Provincial Jail
Extension in Sanchez Mira.
2-year-old run over by van killed
PINUKPUK,
Kalinga – A 2-year-old boy was killed here June 6 when he was run over by an
unattended van
Police
report said the incident happened about 4 p.m. at Barangay Ammacian.
The victim
was identified as Jan Jerald Ramirez, 2 yrs. old; son of Milagros Ramirez.
Investigation disclosed that the
Delica Van was parked unattended at the side of a steep road
where the victim and her sister were in but the vehicle moved forward.
The
movement made the victim fall from the right front door of the van and was
run over by the rear tire resulting tosevere injury of his left face.
The
victim was rushed to Pinukpuk District Hospital but declared dead on
arrival by the attending physician.

illegal lumber confiscated in Apayao
LUNA,
Apayao -- Personnel of the Apayao Police Provincial Office confiscated a total
of 95,791.46 pesos worth of illegally cut lumbers with a total volume of
6,747.99 board feet last week.
Senior
Supt. Albertlito Garcia, provincial police director said illegally cut lumber
was confiscated in Luna, Flora and Calanasan towns.
A
chainsaw was also confiscated. A police report didn’t say if illegal loggers
were arrested.
Bocap shot dead in ricefield
LAGAYAN,
Abra – A barangay chief here was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman on
June 6 around 5:30 a.m. here.
Police
identified the victim as Trium Pajo Donato, 42.
Initial
investigation disclosed that the victim was on his way home from his rice field
when he was fired upon by still unidentified person resulting to his death.
The
gunman immediately fled to unknown direction after the incident.
Police
recovered 20 fired cartridges of Cal. 7.62mm rifle at the crime scene.
Man stabs nephew who suffers serious injuries
VILLAVICIOSA,
Abra – A man is now being hunted by police after he stabbed his nephew who
suffered serious injuries.
Police
investigation disclosed that at about 10 pm. of June 6, victim Mark
CarlitoBumagat, 22 and his cousin JovitRogecio Villon were eating at their
house in Barangay Lumaba when Jerry
Rogecio, 40, the victim’s uncle, farmer who was drunk came.
He took
a knife and without any apparent reason stabbed the victim on his neck and left
shoulder.
The
victim was brought to Villaviciosa Medicare Community Hospital for medical
treatment but later transferred to Seares Memorial Hospital, Bangued, Abra for
further medical treatment.
The
suspect immediately fled after the incident and now the subject of manhunt
operation. Weapon used was not recovered.
Taxi driver held up; P3K, cell phone taken
from him
LA
TRINIDAD, Benguet -- A taxi driver was robbed of his earnings here worth P3,000
and his cellphone by three still unidentified hold-uppers.
Police
said the incident happened around 10:35
p.m. of June 6 in Dreamland Subdivision, Barangay Pico.
The
victim was identified as Rufino Aquino, 37 of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur and
resident of Barangay Honeymoon, Baguio City.
Investigation
disclosed the victim was driving his Toyota Tamaraw FX taxi when flagged down
by the three males in Baguio City who requested to be ferried to Dreamland.
Upon
reaching the place, one of the hold-uppers got out from the taxi and proceeded
at the driver side door while the other one seated at the driver’s back part
locked him strangled him with a seat belt while poking a Cal. .38 hand gun at him.
This
while one of their companions took his collection of P2,700.00, his wallet
containing P300 and Cherry mobile cellphone worth P800.00.
The
suspects immediately fled after the incident.
Man arrested for trying to shoot his dog
BAGUIO
CITY – A man was arrested for trying to shoot his dog.
Police
said on June 6, Insp. Gabriel Isican and his men assisted by a SWAT team led by
Chief Insp. John Paul Bayongasan and Chief Insp. Nachor Baucas responded to a
report of indiscriminate firing that transpired at 10:12 p.m. in Barangay Upper
Dagsian.
Investigation
disclosed that suspect Roberto Las Marias, 58 fired upon his own dog
hitting the window glass of a certain Angelo’s house.
Confiscated
from Las Marias was a “paltik” handgun loaded with five bullets.
Las
Marias was subjected to paraffin test while a case against him was prepared.
