LAOAG CITY — Various services benefiting
residents in this city have been lined up for the month-long “A Cause for
August” celebration institutionalized by the city government every month of
August.
Mayor Chevylle V.
Fariñas said the activities for this year started Thursday with a parade
participated in by day-care children along the street of this city, riding on
vegetable and fruit-inspired colorful floats and costumes.
The parade was
conducted to underscore the significance of production and eating of fruits and
vegetables to maintain good health and nutrition.
One of the significant
highlights of the celebration is “Wish kokay Mayor,” a program for indigent
citizens, especially the persons with disabilities (PWDs) to address their
wishes – from crutches to wheelchairs, grocery items, appliances, livelihood
start-up kits, bikes and/or tri-bikes, and other items forwarded through a
letter addressed to the mayor.
