2 trike drivers die in head-on collision
TUGUEGARAO CITY -- Two drivers died when the motorcycles they were riding accidentally collided head-on at the Buntun Bridge in Barangay Buntun, this city, early morning August 4.

Police identified the fatalities as Jeffrey Arago, 22, of Barangay Tanza, this city, and Gilbert Dolores, 33, of Barangay Lasam, Cagayan.

Initial investigation disclosed that before the accident, both victims were traveling on opposite directions. Due to the strong impact of the collision, both victims were critically injured. Responding authorities rushed the victims to a hospital here but were declared dead on arrival. -- Freddie Lazaro

Father, two sons arrested in Abra for rape of minor
TAYUM, Abra - A 55-year-old father and his two sons were arrested August 4 by police for more than 100 counts of statutory rape.

Senior Supt. Benjamin Lusad, Abra police director, said

Judge Corpuz Alzate of the Regional Trial Court branch 2, issued arrest warrants against the three who were simultaneously nabbed here in Poblacion, Tayum.

Supt. Mario Mayames, deputy police provincial director for operations, who led the arrest identified the suspects as Saturnino Bacud Benabese, 55 and his sons Jerick Paul,23 and Ronald James, 18, all residents of Poblacion.

Police said the suspects have been abusing a female minor since 2011 until February 2013 in BarangayGarreta, Pidigan town.

Apayao businessman robbed
LUNA, Apayao — A businessman was robbed and killed in Kabugao town, the Apayao Police Provincial Office said. Senior Supt. Albertlito Garcia, provincial director, identified the victim as Arthur AngoluanDasson Jr. of Barangay Malama, Conner, Apayao.

Garcia said Dasson left his home at 9 a.m. Tuesday carrying P25,000 in a belt bag and went to Poblacion, Kabugao, Apayao to meet a certain BebotIringan.

Dasson was later discovered dead in SitioPurag with his belt bag with the cash missing.

Anti-gun drive upped in Abra
BANGUED, Abra — Law enforcers have stepped up their campaign against the proliferation of licensed and unlicensed firearms in this province to guarantee a secure barangay and SangguniangKabataan elections in October.

Senior Supt. Roberto Q. Soriano, deputy director of the Police Regional Office, said they have already gone out of their way to verify the licensed firearms of incumbent local officials and aspirants for various elected positions who reportedly registered their guns outside the province.

Abra Gov. Eustaquio Bersamin and Mayor Dominic Valera, who supported the campaign, informed police not to return their guns that were earlier subjected to tape-sealing.

Woman nabbed for estafa in Abra
BANGUED, Abra – A 58-year old woman identified as Marina Bulda Quintero here of Actividad-Economia St, Zone 1, was arrested for three counts estafa and eight counts for violation of bouncing chercks law was nabbed along Torrijos St, Zone 5 in this town.

Quintero was nabbed after arrest warrants were issued against her by Judge Charito B. Gonzales, of Regional Trial Court Branch 1 in Bangued, Abra, Judge Policarpio P Martinez of RTC Branch 71, in Candon City, Ilocos Sur  and Judge Redentor B Valera, Presiding Judge, MTC, Bangued, Abra and Judge Alpino S Florendo, MCTC, Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur.

Pizza delivery boy steals Korean’s cell phone
BAGUIO CITY – Be wary of pizza delivery boys. Young Hwan Lee, 24,  Korean National and resident of Latawan Apartment  at here at Homestead Street, Sarok was allegedly victimized by Marvin Paul E. Triol, 35, delivery boy of Yellow Cab located at Camp John Hay around 11:30 p.m. August 2 at his residence.
           
Investigation disclosed suspect took Lee’s cell phone placed on top of the gate wall of the victim’s apartment after delivering pizza.

Victim reviewed the CCTV camera which was installed outside the apartment and found out that the pizza delivery boy took the said cell phone.

Personnel of Police Station 8 arrested the suspect at Yellow Cab Pizza in Camp John Hay and recovered from his possession  the stolen cellphone.

Ilocos computer rob gang strikes again
NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur – A robbery gang preying on computer sets of public schools has struck again.
The gang, using acetylene torches, got into the computer room of the Nanguneg-Imelda National High School here and carted away 12 computer sets last week.

The robbers fled by climbing over the fence.

The Bantay National High School also recently lost 19 computers to robbers.

An alarmed Gov. Ryan Luis Singson has ordered the police to put an end to the robberies.

Irish jailed for marijuana sticks in Laoag airport
LAOAG CITY -- An Irish national is now in jail here after security personnel at the Laoag International Airport here in Barangay Gabu foiled his attempt to smuggle two sticks of marijuana leaves one evening late last month.

Operatives from the Aviation Security Command of the Laoag International Airport arrested EannaO’Cochlain, 53, an Irish native married to a Filipina from Batac City.

Authorities at the airport said the Irish was getting through the final inspection before he was about to board a Cebu Pacific airline bound for Manila when the two sticks of dried marijuana leaves inside a Marlboro cigarette pack were detected.

The suspect was immediately endorsed to the Laoag City police’s anti-illegal drugs special operations task group by the security personnel at the airport.

He is now facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

German loses cash, passport in Baguio
BAGUIO CITY - A German national who has made Itogon, Benguet his second home lost his money and documents at a bank parking lot just a few steps away from the police station along Session Road.

Eighty-two-year-old Kurt Simon Biedermann of Tuding, Itogon, Benguet reported to the same police outpost stationed just a few meters away from a Banco De Oro branch that his bag containing his German passport, alien certificate of registration, Philippine peso cash and United States dollars were stolen from his vehicle parked at the bank’s parking area one morning late last month.

The bag contained his German-government issued passport and cash amounting to P10,000 and $500.

The German said he left his car only for an hour for some transactions at the Baguio Post Office nearby but discovered his bag was missing when he returned home.

Police urged home owners and business establishment owners to install closed-circuit television cameras to thwart criminals in the city.

Cops track rapist-killer of  OFW’s daughter in Cagayan
TUGUEGARAO CITY – Police are still hunting the attacker of a six-year-old daughter of an overseas Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia who was recentlyh found sexually molested and strangled to death in her room in Claveria, Cagayan.

Chief Insp. Rene Estabillo, Claveria police chief, said probers have taken fluid samples and pubic hair from the victim’s private part, and were tracking down her attacker who had left town.

Benguet cops confiscate 517 board feet of illegal umber
 CAMP BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet  – Police confiscated 517.2 board feet of assorted illegal lumber valued at  P14, 481.00 last week.

Mankayan town police confiscated from a Ford Fiera jeep 54 pieces sawn pine lumber valued at P9, 800.00.  Authorities gave a brief chase but failed to arrest the driver.

Meanwhile,  Atok town police, responding to a report from a concerned citizen, recovered 32 pieces of abandoned pine lumber of assorted dimensions with a total volume of 167.2 board feet with an estimated value of P 4, 681.6 in SitioAdala, Caliking.

The vehicle and the confiscated and recovered pine lumber were brought to the concerned police stations for safekeeping prior to its turn-over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Thirteen persons nabbed in Cordillera for  crimes  
CAMP BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet  – Police arrested 13 individuals for various crimes last week.
A 16- year old, high school student and a resident of  Conner, Apayao was arrested at his residence following arrest warrant issued by Judge Quirino M. Andaya of the Regional Trial Court in Luna, Apayao for rape with no bail recommended.

Investigation showed the suspect molested a Grade I pupil with disability last Jan. 6 at the compound of an Elementary School in Conner Apayao.

Three other suspects were arrested for committing various crimes: Joven Omayana Paez, 23, a resident of Queen of Peace, Lourdes Extension Subdivision, Baguio City for robbery with violence and intimidation with a recommended bail bond of P100,000;  Brantford Chang Teng, 35, of  Lower Pinget, Baguio City for perjury with a recommended bail bond of P12,000 and  John Paul Tay-ogPusot, 24, private miner, of Philex Mines, Tuba, Benguet for robbery.

Others were arrested for violation of Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children Act of 2004).

Suspects were identified as Mulawin Purisima Balanao, 23, farmer and a resident of Daburab, Bacarri, Paracelis, Mt. Province who was arrested in Dagawe, Poblacion, Paracelis, Mountain Province; Bryan Dela Paz Paddanan, 28, of San Pascual, Rizal, Kalinga; and Ricky Reyes Arches, of Barangay Magsilay, Pasil, Kalinga.

Two suspects were also separately arrested for estafa.

They were identified as  Juan GonowonCamo, 52, taxi driver and a resident of Banangan, Sablan, Benguet and Evangeline  Macaraeg Galang, 43, housewife and a resident of No. 181 Lower Engineers Hill, Baguio City.

The former was nabbed in-front of Abanao Square, Baguio City with a recommended bail bond of P 200, 000.00 while the latter along Leonard Wood Rd., Saint Joseph Village, Baguio City with a recommended bail of P12,000.00.

In Abra, a certain Loreto Taberdo Babida alias Pongpong, a 28-year old farmer, was arrested by Lagangilangpolice for shooting an 18-year old student along the road in Barangay San Isidro, Lagangilang. 

The suspect missed his target and a homemade Cal. .22 revolver with a round of ammunition was confiscated from him.

Another was nabbed for beating to death with a piece of wood a certain Rogelio TugadiPadapat, 53, allegedly after a heated argument. 

The suspect was identified as Donald Tugadi Padapat, 29, a resident of SitioBangcag, barangay Naguirayan, PidiganAbra.

An identified suspect Roldan Bareto Gapua, 22, painter,  was also arrested for hitting two victims with a steel bar in Purok 7, barangay San Juan, Tabuk City, Kalinga while under the influence of alcohol. 

The victims, namely Robin Deleon Bani, 28, farmer, a resident of San Juan, Tabuk City; and Romeo Baret Deleon, 22, self-employed and a resident of Cabanatuan City, were brought at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital, Bulanao, Tabuk City after suffering lacerations, abrasions and bruises.

Meanwhile, Baguio police nabbed in Purok 3 Sto. Rosario Valley, Baguio City one Carl Elton Payang Temporal, 19, a resident of Marcos Highway, Badiwan Poblacion, Tuba, after robbing a taxi driver and taking away P1,800.00.
