32 nabbed for illegal fishing along Phl sea


SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — Fresh from training to enhance their skills, La Union’s Task Force Fish Watch arrested 32 fishermen and confiscated from them two commercial fishing vessels and 50 buckets of assorted fish last Monday along the Lingayen Gulf.

Boat Captains Bong Basadela Peña, 45, and his 15 crew members on board “Princess Bella 3,” and Francisco Llever, 50, and his crew of 15 on board “Romina 15” are all facing charges for violating local and national fishing laws.

The two vessels are in the custody of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) while the buckets of fish were brought to the local jail for consumption of the inmates. -- Freddie G. Lazaro
