ABC president arrested: Deputy PNP town chief, 2 others survive shooting

BANGUED, Abra -- The deputy chief of police who was shot along with two other government officials  by the president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in Baay-Licuan town, are now out of danger while the ABC head was arrested and now in jail.

Senior Supt. Benjamin Lusad, provincial police director, said SPO4 Nelson Venus, deputy COP of Baay-Licuaan is now in stable condition after he was shot in the abdomen by ABC president Joseph Sales Daguio, barangay captain of Tumalip, during a social gathering last Jan. 16.

Also shot by the suspect were Catalino Gaboy, administrative officer of Baay-Licuan and Gerardo Bernal, barangay kagawad of Duminglay.

Lusad said the 66- year old barangay captain was arrested after the shooting inside  the municipal multi-purpose jall in Sitio Baquero, Barangay Nalbuan, Baay-Licuan, Abra at around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 16.

Lusad said based on information gathered during the socialization program of the municipal employees and barangay officials of Baay-Licuan, SPO4 Venus invited municipal accountant Grethel Garcia Sacragun for a dance, when the suspect approached them and shot Venus several times.

Gaboy was hit on his armpit when he tried to pacify the suspect while Bernal was hit on his left leg.

At this point,  PO2 Babila was able to grab the suspect’s firearm and later arrested him.

All victims were brought to the Seares Memorial Hospital but SPO4 Venus and Gaboy were later transferred to the Abra Provincial Hospital for further medication.

Police recovered the Cal. 45 pistol and the four cartridge cases  in the crime scene.
