Search on for Cordi ‘Kalasag’ awardees

BAGUIO CITY — The “Gawad Kalasag” (Kalamidad at Sakuna LAban, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) is now searching awardees for 2014 in the Cordillera region.

The regional Gawad Kalasag is an annual award bestowed on outstanding individuals, groups and institutions who exemplify excellence in disaster reduction risk management (DRRM) and humanitarian assistance.

Since 1998, Kalasag recognized outstanding performance of local DRRM councils, civil society groups, schools, hospitals and stakeholders in promoting significant DRRM- climate change adaptation programs and innovations.

Office of Civil Defense acting regional director Andrew Alex Uy said the search has award categories such as “Best DRRM Council” in the provincial, city, municipality and barangay levels; “Best NGOs/CSOs/ Peoples Organization” for humanitarian assistance; “Best Government Emergency Response Management (GEM)”; “Best Private/Volunteer Organizations”; “Best Hospitals”; “Best Schools” from Early Learning Centers (ELCs) to the tertiary level; “Best Heroic Act” of individuals and groups during emergency response and rescue operations; and special recognition awards for individuals and stakeholders.

The Gawad Kalasag search entries, nominees need to submit documentations of their DRRM activities not later than April 10, 2014 at the Department of Interior and Local Government Regional Office.
