2 Ifugao scouters receive GSP top heroism award


AGUINALDO, Ifugao- Two junior girl scouts from this municipality received the Josefa LLanes Escoda Golden Heart Medallion from the Girls Scout of the Philippines (GSP) for saving the life of a fellow scouter  more than a year ago.

The award was conferred to junior girl scouts JowellyKaete B. Longatan and Maribeth C. Baj-iwon last April 28 for saving the life of Peregrina Martin of Kiangan during an encampment in Lamut town in November 2012.

The Josefa LLanesEscoda Golden Heart Medallion  is given to girl scouts for acts of  heroism and gallantry.

According to GSP –Ifugao council executive FelyGumangan, Longatan and Baj-iwon together with other scouters went to the river on November 18 to take a bath and saw two scouters drowning.

“Unmindful to the risk of the strong current of the water, the two girl scouts jumped in the river saving one of the girls later identified as Martin;  unfortunately, they were not able to save the other victim as she was carried away deep down the river,” Gumangan said.

The officials of Aguinaldo earlier  passed a resolution commending  the heroic deed of Longatan and Baj-iwon.


“This heroic deed of our fellowmen is expressive of our sentiment as a municipality worthy of emulation and commendation,” the officials stated. -- Marcelo Lihgawon
