CERVANTES, Ilocos Sur -- Some P27-million
worth of marijuana were destroyed by combined forces of the Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency and the Philippine National Police during an anti-illegal
drugs operation in Ilocos Sur.
Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac Jr., PDEA
director general, said agents of PDEA Regional Office 1 under Director Adrian
Alvariño, in collaboration with operatives of the Cervantes Police Station,
Ilocos Sur Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group
(PAIDSOTG), and Ilocos Sur Provincial Public Safety Company (ISPPSC), found the
fully-grown marijuana plants in Dinwende West, Cervantes, Ilocos Sur, during a
recent operation.
Cacdac said that based on reports he
received, the marijuana plantation covers an area of 8,000 square meters.
“The marijuana eradication operation is under
case operation plan code name: ‘Green Gold 2.’ Although no cultivator was
arrested during the operation, the operating teams were able to seize 138,000
pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants worth P27,600,000 based on the value set
by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB),” Cacdac said.
As this developed, Cacdac commended the
operatives of PDEA and the Philippine National Police for their constant
cooperation, which led to the successful eradication of the illegal hemp, and
for collaborative efforts to prevent the movement of marijuana from the north
going to other regions.
