Nerez order probe on slay of Abra bocap,wounding of two
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police are now conducting manhunt operation against suspects in three separate shooting incidents including a case wherein a barangay kagawad was killed last week.

Regional police director Chief Supt. Isagani Nerez ordered police to investigate and swiftly hunt down suspects behind the shooting incident that happened in Abra involving a barangay kagawad and in Apayao to give justice to their victims.

Senior Supt. Benjamin Lusad, provincial police director confirmed a barangay kagawad of Pakiling Bucay, Abra, named Heriberto Claor Bernese, 46, of Sitio Alikono Layugan Bucay town was shot to death by  unidentified suspects while he was busy tending his cow during Maundy Thursday at around 5 p.m. in Sitio Alikono, Layugan, Bucay.

Bucay police said one of the suspects closely shot him twice and immediately escaped to unknown direction boarding a white and blue Euro motorcycle with marking “For Registration”.

 Bucay police rushed the victim to Bucay District Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician. Victim sustained gunshot wounds on his right neck and left part of his nose.

 On the other hand, two victims of shooting incidents were also reported in Apayao after they were shot by unidentified suspects in their residence during the night in the same day of April 16.

 First victim was a housewife who was shot after she ignored what her daughter saw in the window someone hiding from a tree and pointing a gun towards their house  around 9 p.m.

 Injured victim Milagros Belan Barad, 28, of Upper Maton, Pudtol, Apayao said their dog was barking when her 9-year-old daughter saw three male persons hiding behind a tree with one of them was pointing a gun towards their house but she ignored her daughter. She added that while inside their bedroom, she heard a gun shot and saw her left arm oozing with blood.

After one hour and a half interval, a farmer was also shot by identified suspects while he was lying in bed in Sitio Eucalyptus, Capannikian, Pudtol, Apayao.

Victim Gilbert Abrena Zuniga aka Boy, 45, a resident of the place said he went to the house of his mother to charge his cellphone and while waiting, he laid down on a bed when suddenly unidentified suspects shot him on his right shoulder.

 Pudtol police said the victim sustained gun shot wounds on his right shoulder while shotgun pellets were recovered at the crime scene.

 Barad and Zuniga were brought to Amma Jadsac District Hospital and later transferred to Far North Luzon General Hospital, Luna, Apayao.

 This, as a cadaver was found by a concerned citizen at Sitio Sayatan Daclan, Tublay, Benguet on April 17 at about 1:10 a.m.

Police identified the cadaver as that of Johnson Sugnad Moltio who sustained back head injury and was dead for 6 to 8 hours when found.
They also recovered pieces of evidence at the crime scene that will possibly link to the identification of the suspect.
 The cadaver of the victim was brought to La Paz Funeral Homes, Baguio City for autopsy.

 “We are appealing to the public to furnish the police whoever has any information or knowledge about the incident to report to the nearest police station for the immediate arrest and identification of the suspects” Nerez said.

Ex-pastor nabbed in Benguet over drugs
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet   - Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency nabbed a former pastor after being caught selling illegal drugs to an undercover agent here, the PDEA said  Thursday.

PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. identified the suspect as Delfin Andiso, 54, here of Windy Hill, Buyagan.

Andiso is a former pastor of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ Church located in Km. 6, La Trinidad, and in list of target drug personalities in Benguet for 2014, Cacdac said.

Reports showed last April 22, PDEA agents nabbed Andiso after  he sold methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, to a poseur-buyer during a buy-bust operation near an auto supply store in Pico, La Trinidad,  around around 4:30 p.m.

Seized from Andiso were one plastic sachet containing shabu, a mobile phone and the P1,000 marked bill used as buy bust money during the transaction.

He will be charged for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Crime down in Baguio City during Holy Week
BAGUIO CITY -- The recent Holy Week, in comparison to the same period last year was more peaceful in terms of crime volume and traffic flow.

Senior Supt. Rolando F. Miranda, city police officer-in-charge bared this, saying crime prevention, community participation and other measures made the difference.

He said police in three shifts with eight hours of duty instead of only two shifts with 12-hour duty enabled lawmen to have more rest and be with their families.

As to crime statistics, there were five crimes against persons during Holy Week compared to 11  same period last year.

Robbery cases increased from one to five for the comparative periods, but theft decreased from 17 to 16.

It was on non-index crimes  or those punishable by city ordinances which nosedived from 48 in 2013 to 33 last week.

Miranda said vigilance of city police as part of implementing organizations for “2014 Cordillera Summer Vacation” (SUMVAC) will be maintained throughout the year especially as hundreds of tourists come to this mountain resort for other special events.

He said city police still has to improve operations against crimes like those against property like “bukas-kotse”, “snatching” , “pickpockets” , “Sungkit”, and “akyat-bahay”.

Miranda asked community participation in peace efforts.

Laborer jailed for refusing to marry his victim 
PIDIGAN, Abra  – The No. 6 top most wanted person here was arrested Monday for refusing to support and marry his victim.

Pidigan’s No. 6 TMWP wanted for for violence against women and children (Republic Act 9262)  was identified as Jakeson Abella Quiba, 24, laborer, of Poblacion East, Pidigan was incarceratedin town jail.

Local police arrested him at his residence.

Six arrested  for various crimes in Cordillera
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Six wanted individuals were arrested Monday in their respective residences by virtue of warrants of arrest issued by various courts.

They were identified as Robert Labaw Morales, 46, farmer, of Barangay Pangpang, San Carlos City, Pangasinan, who was arrested for attempted murder with a recommended bail bond of P 120,000; Jason Bucalen Bacacao, 31, of Purok 6, Bulanao, Tabuk City, who was arrested for frustrated homicide; Silvino Cayabo Agustin Jr., 21, of Dagawe, Poblacion, Paracelis, Mountain Province, who was nabbed for theft with recommended bail of P150,000 while two Indian nationals were nabbed for carnapping, namely Balkar Singh, 52 and Hinda Singh, 24, both residents of Pagnas Compound, Liwanag, Camp 7, Baguio City.

Meanwhile, Ricardo Aguit Tiokson, 26, resident of Gold Field Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet who was serving his sentence in jail had another standing warrant of arrest for illegal firearms was again served a warrant in jail.

Tabuk gambling operator collared
TABUK CITY – Police nabbed Renko Dupliyan Busacay, slot machine operator, Monday afternoon due to complaints from the locality regarding illegal activity in the area. 

Dupliyan was caught collecting bets in his residence in Purok 4, Bulanao,while other individuals ran to different directions.

Confiscated from Busacay were P 1, 756.00 cash bets and one fruity game machine "kola long" containing cash amounting to P214.

Tublay police haul abandoned lumber
TUBLAY, Benguet – Local police hauled abandoned freshly sawn pine lumber in SitioPinan, Barangay Basil, Tublay Monday.
A total of 50 pieces of pine lumber was recorded valued at P 6, 006.

Police said they were intensifying drive against illegal logging.

Farmer surrenders gun
SALLAPADAN, Abra -- A farmer named Willy Sumalnap Blanza, 37, resident of Sitio Salideng, Barangay Saccang,voluntarily surrendered a Cal. 45 pistol  with one magazine and no ammunition Monday morning.

He said it was insupport to police drive against loose firearms.

Three trouble makers placed behind bars
CAMP DANGWA, Benguet -- Patrolling policemen of arrested a miner for stoning the head of one Paulo Paris Sunggay, 35, resident of Barangay Pinget, Baguio City along Kalantiao Extension, Kagitingan Barangay April 20.

The suspect identified as Sherwin Vicente Basay, 19, resident of Ampucao, Loakan, Itogon, Benguet hit the victim after being forced outside the Montañosa restaurant for creating trouble.  A brief chase with policemen and tanods resulted to his arrest.

This, as Baguio Station 6 cops arrested a drunk Ethiopian student for beating two men and creating trouble at No. 33 Upper Malvar, Aurora Hill, Baguio City morning of April 18.  

Victims Amonio Gapasin, 60 and Dante Parungao, 49, were attacked by Walid Ibrahim Buhran, 23, in their garage destroying paintings and materials of Parungao.  Gapasin was brought to the Baguio General Hospital for medical treatment.

In  same day, one Jay Mark Binwag Bumidang, 20, was arrested after mauling a 69-year-old woman inside her store in Sitio Bana-ao, Boliwong, Lagawe, Ifugao.

The victim named as Gabina AmaynaInhumang, farmer and a store owner was trying to stop a group from playing billiards when the suspect got irked and attacked her.  Responding policemen arrested Bumidang while the victim was brought to Ifugao General Hospital for medical treatment.

All arrested suspects were placed under custody of concerned police units while charges were prepared in court against them.

Three arrested for illegal possession of firearms
CAMP DANGWA, La Trindad, Benguet – Police arrested three individuals and seized assorted firearms during Holy Week in Abra and Benguet.

A Phil-Am engineer and a retired DENR employee were taken into custody after being caught in possession of their firearms at the forested area at Zone 1, Tangadan, San Quintin, Abra that Friday afternoon.

Senior Supt. Benjamin M. Lusad, Abra police director, said gunfire was heard by two policemen jogging along the highway prompting them to call for back-up for immediate response that subsequently resulted in arrest of Jaynar Cambe Gasmen, 40, senior engineer of Globe Telecom of Quezon City, a resident of Kingstown, 22 Subdivision, Caloocan City and Narcio Piano Gazmen, Sr., 65, a resident of Zone 1, Tangadan, San Quintin, Abra.

Members of Abra Provincial Public Safety Company confiscated from Jaynara  .9mm pistol with empty magazine while from Narcio, a Cal. 22 pistol with one empty magazine. Five cartridge cases for .9mm and Cal.22 were recovered in the area.

Meanwhile, one Ricardo Aguid Tioxon Jr., 26, miner, a resident of Gold Field, Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet was arrested by Itogon police. Confiscated from him were seven bullets for Cal. 22;  a bullet for Cal. 45; 1 Knife; 1 screw driver; and a pair of scissors while a Caliber 22 air gun was discovered at the patio of his house that Saturday.

In Pidigan, Abra, barangay chairman Ronald Pasal of Barangay Laskig surrendered a Cal.22 revolver and three bullets to police Friday morning.

This, as police also recovered World War 2 vintage bomb at a river bed of Upper Maris Dam, Minanga, Domingo, Alfonso Lista, Ifugao after tip from a concerned citizen Friday morning.

Four arrested for various crimes
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Fur individuals were arrested by responding policemen in separate incidents last week.

Police arrested a man for trying to steal something from the bag of an executive financial adviser  Wednesday at around 1 a.m. inside  Spade Bar of Crown Legacy at Kisad Rd., Baguio City.

The victim named as Linell Faye Sivila Seguritan, 33, and her friend were having a drinking session inside the bar when she noticed theft suspect Rogelio Foronda y Calowagan, 26, resident of Lot 70 Pinesville Kias, Baguio go near her bag and open it trying to get the wallet inside but he was confronted by the victim who called assistance of the security guard.

After two hours interval, a security guard was also arrested by Baguio police , Station 2 after he strangled and dragged an entertainer inside the Double O Disco Bar, at Lower Magsaysay Baguio City.

 The suspect identified as Bernard Magante Florindo, 23, resident of Purok 10 phase 1 Bakakeng, Baguio City was a costumer and  was entertained by the victim Maricar Bulda Matic, 21, of Upper Pinget, Baguio when a misunderstanding took place that led to the strangulation and dragging of the victim.

On the other hand, two individuals were arrested by members of Mankayan police after beating two victims inside a computer shop at around 7:30 in the evening in Aurora Street, Poblacion, Mankayan, Benguet.

Motivated by an old grudge, the suspects identified as Mark Balolang Baquilo, 18, unemployed and Jhonson Bugnosen Donato, 30, laborer attacked the victims identified as Crisanto Anannias Garlejo, 24, farmer and Jomel Jiminez Padiclas, 19, driver, both residents of Aurora Street, Poblacion inside the computer shop. Both victims were treated at the Regional Health Unit of Mankayan.

Drug peddlers, bet collectors, illegal loggers arrested  
Four alleged drug peddlers, bet collectors and illegal loggers were arrested a day before Holy week.

Senior Supt. Rolando Miranda, Baguio police director  said two illegal drug traders were caught  in a buy-bust operation after  trading illegal drugs to  police agents.

Manzano Gideon y Lastimosa, 44, of 14 Military Cut-off, was arrested along Rizal Park, Baguio City at about 8:30 p.m. Confiscated from him was shabu valued at P 4, 800..

 The following day, same operatives arrested Gary Balag-ey y Gatudan, 43, miner of 111 Sanitary Camp, Baguio who was nabbed at BGH Compound.

Confiscated from him were a of sachet containing 0.45 grams of shabu; cell phone used during the transaction and buy-bust money amounting to P1, 000.

 On the other hand, a jueteng collector was also arrested on the spot after he was caught by the joint personnel of the Abra Provincial Intelligence Branch and Criminal Investigation and Detection Team collecting bets in Zone 7, Bangued, Abra that Tuesday morning.

The bet collector was identified as Juanito BadasTadeo, 27, a resident of Zone 7, Bangued.

Confiscated from him were cash bets amounting to P353.00 and jueteng paraphernalia.

This, as an an illegal logger was arrested after he was caught by the members of the Benguet Provincial Public Safety Company  cutting pine lumbers in Bentew, Central, Atok, Benguet that Wednesday morning.

Arrested logger was named Romel Bugtong Kopero, 25, a resident of Central, Atok, Benguet. Confiscated from him were a chainsaw and sawn pine lumber.

4 suspects nabbed for  stabbing and stealing 
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Four individuals were arrested for inflicting injury to victims that led to immediate death of two.

 A 54 –year- old Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) member was placed in jail after he stabbed to death a 47-year- old farmer in Lurog, Allig, Flora, Apayao April 12 about 2:30 a.m.

 Victim Edmundo Bernal Tabor, widower, and suspect Jimmy AlejoLigsay, both residents of  Lurog were having a drinking session with their friends when a heated argument ensued between them.

The victim struck the suspect’s head with an empty bottle and in return, the suspect stabbed his abdomen twice. The attending physician of the Flora District Hospital declared the victim dead on arrival while Ligsay surrendered to Flora –police.

Another farmer was arrested after he allegedly stabbed to death his drinking buddy at Amgaleyguey, Buguias, Benguet Wednesday at about 1 a.m.

The victim was identified as Stephen Makilay Bumugao, 57, farmer and resident of Amgaleyguey, Buguias.

Suspect was named as Isidro Dalagan Dayaodao, 30, a resident of Cabitin, Mankayan.

Suspect and victim with companions were having a drinking session when an argument arouse which annoyed the victim who  boxed the suspect prompting the suspect to stab the victim on his chest with a knife.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Alunes Clinic/Hospital by  attending physician Dr. Joseph Alunes while the suspect was arrested by the responding Buguias police.

 In Abra, an employee of the Kalinga Provincial Capitol was arrested after stabbing his victim inside the Dens Café Bar and Resto at corner Quezon and Oroqueta street, Dagupan West, Tabuk City, Kalinga Saturday evening.

 Injured victim John Mark Dupli Gilfilan, 22, a resident of Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga was about to leave the bar when suspect Jerico Liptac Astrelejo, 28, a resident of Dagupan West, Tabuk City, Kalinga approached him and a heated argument ensued between them.

As a result, the suspect took a broken glass and stabbed the victim on his left shoulder.

 The victim was brought to Kalinga Provincial Hospital for medical treatment while the suspect was arrested by the responding Tabuk police.

This, as a thief was jailed while his cohort escaped after they were caught carrying away fighting cocks at the backyard of the victim at No. 08 Purok 2 Padre Zamora, Baguio City Monday at around 3:30 AM.


Barry Padillia Guinomon, 21, miner, of Batad, Banaue Ifugao, residing at Luneta Antamok and his unidentified companion took away three fighting cocks (Texas) worth P10, 500 owned by Nomer Esirda Publico. While evading arrest, Guinomon was caught by  patrolling policemen of Station 2 with the help of a vendor while his companion managed to escape with two fighting cocks.
