Abra town folks urged: Report illegal activities

By Ginalyn Brioso

SALLAPADAN, Abra – Gov. Eustaquio P. Bersamin warned upland communities of Abra to be vigilant and watchful of illegal activities and report these to authorities.

Bersamin said that while he respects the need of the people to engage in livelihood, he said he would not want to see the environment and natural resources ruined simply because of own neglect and illegal activities.

He cited a fish kill that  alarmed the residents of Bantay, Maguyepyep in this upland town last April. Concerned community people reported  directly to the governor  the said incident through text messages thus he was able to act immediately.

Bersamin right away called the attention of Environment and Natural Resources Provincial Officer Cris Albolote to verify and  conduct an immediate investigation on the incident.

One possible cause of the fish kill  as reported is the small scale mining activities in upland Sallapadan and neighboring barangay of Dumagas in Boliney which are located upstream of Brgy. Maguyepyep.
