MANAOG,
Pangasinan -- Devotees and tourists flocked this town yesterday (Feb. 17) when
the Manaoag Shrine was proclaimed a minor basilica.
Mayor
Kim Amador of Manaoag said the biggest gathering of Manaoag
devotees caused traffic congestion as the ceremony was attended
by 60 bishops and 250 priests from all over the country
and the whole Lingayen-Dagupan archdiocese.
In
a press conference, Amador called for vigilance and understanding as large
vehicles were allowed in the area and cars were rerouting.
Masses
and processions were held Feb 14, 15 and 16 prior to the main event yesterday.
The
formal proclamation took place during a mass led by Manila Archbishop Luis
Antonio Cardinal Tagle and con-celebrated by Cotabato Archbishop Orlando
Cardinal Quevedo, O.M.I. and retired Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal
Rosales.
